The Content Digital project will utilize digital media to reach and engage the public through content strategically designed to be experienced with or without facilitation. With the support of an ASU intern, the National Park Service will disseminate the project via oral history booths that will be installed at the Montgomery Interpretive Center and the Alabama State University (ASU) Digital Library, ensuring public accessibility, locally and globally. The resources could also be used to supplement classroom lessons regarding the African-American Civil Rights Movement. The information gathered will be of interest to scholars and everyday citizens who are interested in how activism could both change public opinion and influence governmental practices at the local, state, and federal levels.
 
Learning Goals:
 
By the end of the position the intern will have conducted research and identified 25 or more individuals who witnessed and/or participated in the 1965 Voting Rights Movement, collected at least five individual's oral history, developed a demonstration of the digital content and conducted a survey of stakeholders as well as a targeted group representative of the general public.
 
Qualifications:
 
Additional qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited HBCU institution
  • Must be between 16 and 35 years of age
  • Must be U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident or U.S. national
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check
  • Preference for students and/or recent graduates of Alabama State University
Vehicle/License Requirement:

Personal vehicle required

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation is at a rate of $15 per hour, 40 hours per week.
