POSITION OVERVIEW

Position Title Park Guide Intern
NPS Unit Name Cane River Creole National Historical Park
Position Dates May 25th – July 31st
Position Description Cane River Creole National Historical Park is working to broaden interpretation and education to increase understanding, reach new audiences and inspire the next generation of stewards. We are in need of new ideas and fresh perspectives for Civil Rights and youth interpretive/ education programs, events and exhibits as we prepare to relocate the park headquarters in the historic Natchitoches train depot. The intern would be a vital part of the park team, developing both programming, social media posts and producing exhibits for both the Creole plantation sites and the train depot.
Learning Goals The intern will learn the history and mission of the National Park Service (NPS), the park, the Cane River region, and Creole Culture. They will also learn about and have hands-on experience with the many different
disciplines (Interpretation, Cultural Resources, Facilities, Administration, and Management) within a park, and the role each plays in meeting the NPS mission. They will gain experience in researching, public speaking, and developing both personal (talks, tours) and non-personal (writing, planning exhibits) services. They will hopefully develop a life long love of the National Park System and an interest in working for the NPS or in a similar preservation/conservation field.
Qualifications Educational Major: History is always an appropriate major, but not required. The park will teach the intern what they need to know about the history of the Cane River region. Skills/Strengths: Research, Public
