Position Description and Responsibilities Position Description: The occupational health and safety technician will collect data on the health and safety conditions of the workplace. They will work with Occupational Health and Safety Manager in conducting tests and measuring hazards to help prevent harm to workers, property, the environment, and the general public within Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks.

Responsibilities include:
• Assist in the documentation and monitoring of the hearing conservation and Blood Borne Pathogens program.
• Assist in the investigation and record keeping of employee accident, near miss and hazard reporting.
• Monitor high noise equipment.
• Document the noise level of the hazardous noise producing equipment.
• Uses computer and appropriate software including Word, Excel, and Access for data collection, program scheduling, filing and documentation.
• Label hazardous noise producing equipment.
• Assist in the liaison between the park and Federal Occupational Heath with the park's clinical services for hearing conservation, Blood Borne Pathogens and Respiratory protection.
• Provides administrative support for the safety division staff such as filing, coping, and scanning.
• Under direct supervision of the Safety Officer, conduct facility safety and health inspections.
• Assist park employees with the use of the Safety Management Information System (SMIS)
• Works in all types of weather conditions including high heat and humidity.
Qualifications Knowledge of safety and health standards and regulations.
Knowledge of basic Industrial Hygiene methods and techniques.
Basic knowledge of procedures and application of safety and health standards.
Basic knowledge of procedures and application of Industrial Hygiene methods and techniques.
Basic knowledge of safety management and legal compliance.
Ability to provide instruction to small groups.
Work Environment The technician will be subject to exposure to operating machines and equipment, hazardous materials, high noise level, hazardous gases, fumes and dust, hazardous waste materials, and other occupational environments. Protective clothing and equipment is required. The technician serves in a staff position in an air-conditioned office. However, field work often occurs in rough terrain and under varying weather conditions. Work may be underground, may have exposures to high electrical energy and/or heights. Emergency operations may also require work in nighttime operations, in adverse terrain and all climatic conditions.
Vehicle/License Requirement Dependable transportation to work is required. A standard valid driver's license is required. A government vehicle will be available for work related travel.
Compensation and Benefits The selected applicant will be compensated at a rate of $15 per hour. A transportation stipend of $40 a week will also be provided to the successful candidate. School schedules will be accommodated as best as possible.
