Thrive Outside Coordinator

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) Georgia Office is launching a collaborative effort to provide outdoor experiences to children and families living in low-resource communities in metro Atlanta.  The program is part of The Outdoor Foundation's national "Thrive Outside” initiative and aligns with TPL's multi-faceted effort to activate the Chattahoochee River corridor in metro Atlanta.

Working with the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, West Atlanta Watershed Alliance, Greening Youth Foundation, Chattahoochee Nature Center and Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and others, TPL will provide outdoor opportunities for these children and families – including one experience along the Chattahoochee River, and one experience in a public park close to where they live.  Experiences will include, among other things, hiking, mountain biking, bird-watching, paddling and nature walks. 

In addition to the Thrive Alive initiative, The Trust for Public Land is promoting outdoor recreation and increased access to public land through The Georgia Trail Summit, the formation of an outdoor recreation coalition and broader work on the Chattahoochee, including the creation of a blueway between West Point and Columbus.

The Trust for Public Land is seeking qualified person to coordinate much of the Thrive Outside programming while also supporting associated programs that promote outdoor recreation. 

Major duties will include, but not limited to:
  • Develop solid working relationships with all partners
  • Coordinate the schedule for all outdoor experiences
  • Track the outdoor experience activity of more than 1,000 unique individuals during the first year of the program, 2,000 I the second year, and 3,000 in the third year. 
  • Manage relationships with core partners and other service providers
  • Manage budgets and track clients using Excel
  • Promote the program on social media platforms (especially Instagram and Facebook). 
  • Provide social media support for the recreation coalition as it coalesces and matures.   
  • Maintain associated websites based on a WordPress platform.
  • Support the Georgia Trail Summit and Chattahoochee Blueway program in logistics planning for both Atlanta area and out-of-town meetings, tours and events. 
Desired knowledge, skills or abilities:
  • Public Relations, Business Administration, Communications, Education, Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Sciences or similar relevant degree
  • Basic knowledge of written and oral communication principles, techniques and methods; analytical methods; and interpersonal relations practices in order to apply the skill to recurring and precedent assignments.
  • Communications skills sufficient to explain and gather information
  • Skills for writing and editing news, features, and reports
  • Nature Lover
  • Well organized and self-motivated
  • A background in or a comfort level with WordPress is desirable.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms, Microsoft Word, and Excel

Compensation: $15/hour
