Description:
The Designer I supports the Project Manager (PM), develops design solutions, produces drawings, layouts, and custom equipment and provides a secondary point of contact and source of information for the client.
Essential Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that may be made by management.
  Description  
  Layout all types of vertical and horizontal transportation equipment, including scissor lifts and vertical reciprocating conveyors, Elevators, Escalators and moving walkways within the buildings. Do this with minimum supervision.  
  Common computer skills including MS Office Suite, Outlook email, spreadsheets, word processing, internet, ftp sites (ex: familiarity Newforma and Buzzsaw), peripherals, etc.  
  Responsible for assigned projects, including meeting deadlines, estimating time for tasks, juggling multiple projects, and accuracy.  
  Coordinate project design and drawing delivery with Client's Project Managers. Make changes to meet altered needs.  
  Coordinate layout drawings with PM and clients / architects. Coordinate project schedule with PM and Design Manager.  
  Collect/organize project specific vertical transportation equipment data, dimensions, electrical requirements, Client, BTUH, structural reactions, and related technical data.  
  Interpret specifications when provided by PM and apply as required by job task.  
  Research elevator codes and building codes and apply as required by job task.  
  Download and review Architectural drawings. Update PM on design changes/issues from arch dwgs compared to Client's VT dwgs.  
  Keep track of changes that stack up over time from PM and Architect from phone conversations, emails, drawings/mark-ups, faxes, etc.  
  Resolve and communicate gaps in Work Request forms with PM.  
  Ability to effectively communicate with BIM / CAD project coordinators.  
  Able to independently design and draw the following applications without significant mistake:
  1. Standard passenger, service, and freight hydros (inground, 1 or 2-stage holeless, roped).
  2. Standard passenger and service overhead traction (geared and gearless).
  3. Single and multi-vendor Machine Room-less.
  4. Standard Escalators.
Through research and support from vendors, able to design and draw without significant mistake:
  1. High-rise / Transit Escalators.
  2. Misc. low-volume applications (dumbwaiters, LU/LAs, moving walks, scissor lifts, VRCs, etc).
 

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of the industry.
  2. Highly organized and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Acrobat and PowerPoint.
  5. Ability to develop Revit and AutoCAD drafting methods for efficiency
  6. Able to take ownership of at least one maintenance task (ie. CAD Management, Paper/plotter supplies, Electronic file administration, drawing templates, Design Manual updates, etc.)
  7. Equipment field measurement
  8. Minimal attendance at design meetings with architect and PM as needed.
  9. REVIT Experience Preferred
Education Or Formal Training:
  1. Fluent in Revit and AutoCAD is required.
  2. Minimum of Associate Degree in Architectural drafting or similar field required. BA/BS degree preferred.
Experience:
  1. Must have minimum of 1 year experience using AutoCAD and Revit or educational equivalent. Elevator design/drafting experience is highest preference. Experience with architectural drafting and coordination with architects is necessary.
  2. Mechanical engineering design experience also preferred. Electrical engineering design experience is helpful, but only in addition to architectural and/or mechanical.
  3. Customer service experience is preferred.
Working Environment:
General Office environment. Minimum travel based on project assignments as needed. Examples may include field surveys of modernization projects and design meetings with architect on new construction projects.
