ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Draws preliminary sketches of dies for review.
  • Prepares Die strip layouts and detailed drawings making certain the design meets the customer piece part and die or machine specifications, taking into consideration how the job was quoted.
  • Selects items per company standards to incorporate into the project and makes sure job materials and components are ordered in a timely manner.
  • Confers with shop personnel to resolve design problems
  • Checks, documents and communicate the progress of jobs as they are being built.
  • Verifies the job is being built as designed and to standards.
  • Discusses and gives final approval or rejects changes.
  • Verifies authorized changes are being built as designed and to Versatool standards.
  • Updates drawings to "As built ".
  • Orders tryout materials at appropriate time.
  • Takes the Engineering lead in project tryout and resolves mechanical problems with shop and/or other personnel as necessary. Works with the customer and sales to set the agenda for the run-off.
  • Creates, compiles, catalogues, stores, retrieves and secures computer generated files.
  • Assists in the training and development of design personnel.
  • Detailing components – in die designs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Training in 2D and 3D modeling software. AutoCAD and Visi are the preferred development platform.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, customers and managers of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with advanced mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
