Title: Principle Engineer, Embedded Firmware - 17-00626
Location: Tualatin, OR
Duration: FTE
Principal Engineer provides strong overall technical leadership and lead innovative designs in research and development. This position develops, designs and test electrical and mechanical components. This position works under minimal supervision.
  • Designs, develops and incorporates new technology into communications components, products and systems for commercial, industrial and residential purposes as they relate to business unit business
  • Acts as a resource to Development engineering and other departments for engineering support
  • Review customer requirement/specifications and identify proper solutions to meet the requirements
  • Regularly participates as a team member and coordinates activities and tasks within the team and with organizations, including vendors, outside the team
  • Researches applications, technologies and design and fabrication alternatives for products from preliminary market requirement that are often lacking details
  • Provides conceptual and detailed product and/or tooling designs of a complex nature
  • Verifies and validates product and/or tool and equipment
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • A highly developed level of creative skills and resourcefulness is required as well as the ability to inter-relate the engineering with other department disciplines in order to solve problems
  • Ability to define and implement solutions to problems resulting from process or procedural issues
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to reduce complex application problem into simplified form and able to educates others.
  • Ability to work with laboratory instrumentation and field test equipment.
  • Ability to use personal computers for word processing, test result analysis and information retrieval, and network installation and maintenance.
  • Good analytical skills, especially in engineering and problem solving.
  • Extensive experience working with other departments and in cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with the Internet, electronic, print media and the printing process, and audio/visual communication
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public.
  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to work in a highly confidential work environment; and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite for Windows on an IBM or compatible personal computer.
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • 10 or more years' experience as a hands-on R&D engineer in a research/product development environment
  • Extensive 'C' (and C++ isa plus) andembedded programming experience with and without RTOS
  • Experience in networking (wireless/wired) and deep understanding and usage of network protocols
  • Extensive experience in both electrical, and embedded products that uses sensors, wireless, wired networks, digital and active electronics
  • Deep understanding with the use of embedded RTOS
  • Familiar with electrical design guidelines and competitive offerings
  • Well versed with the practice of software development tools & methodology (Agile development process)
  • Experience in mentoring junior staff and teams
  • Experience in developing the necessary programming support for manufacturing
  • Field support and sustaining
  • Experience in defining software requirements, engineering specifications, and software quality requirements
