App Support Manager

The Application Support Manager will be responsible for building an application support organization at our client a leading investment firm. This positon will at first require someone to come in as a hands on application support solutions expert to establish best practices with a single high profile application. Once the candidate becomes familiar with the way our client operates and establishes a framework for a single application, that candidate will then start to build a team to take over level one and two application support across the organization.

The successful candidate will have strong experience working directly with business users and technical developers. The candidate must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and have enough technical skills to resolve level one and two application issues. The candidate must also have proven ability to manage junior support resources.
This role requires the following skill sets:
  • Resolve level one and two application support issues
  • Develop and implement a problem management support process
  • Build application support team
  • Lead and prioritize the Application Support team's work load
  • Effectively communicate and build relationships with business users and developers
  • Provide and enforce best practices for developers to turn over systems to be supported by the application support team
  • Coach and develop team members
  • Financial industry experience
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment
  • DevOps experience
Our applications are developed using C#, Python/Django and Java, though Java and C# are now considered legacy technologies for us. Additionally SQL Server, Hadoop/Spark, Storm/Kafka, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Interaction CRM, and a variety of third party APIs and data sources come into play.

Must have
  • 5+ years' experience in an hands-on application support lead/manager role
  • 10+ years of financial experience. Experience with alternate asset managers is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Experience supporting oriented code development in a financial services context, with a specific focus on portfolio management/trading data-centric development and support (C#, Python, SQL)
  • Ability to write SQL queries
  • Practical understanding of design patterns and a good intuition for system design
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a visible role
  • Familiarity with DevOps best practices
Additional relevant experience could include
  • Experience supporting web-based apps (XML, JSON, SOAP)
  • Experience supporting JavaScript, preferably with JQuery library
  • Exposure to Hadoop/Big Data concepts and technology
Primary responsibilities estimated percentage allocation in first 6 months:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or other related discipline (although strong experience with a less directly related degree will be considered)
  • A minimum of 10 years' industry experience
  • Formal problem solving and/or analytical training/experience a plus, as is experience working with management consultants
