The Android Studio team is looking for a technical writer with experience writing documentation for software engineers. 

Android Studio is the official IDE for Android app developers. With a growing list of features to help developers build, test, debug, profile, and deploy their apps, Android Studio needs a writer to help create and curate documentation about Android SDK tools. You'll work with other Android tech writers, engineers, product managers, and developer advocates to teach Android app developers how to get the most out of the Android SDK and developer tools. You'll work independently to create documentation plans, write how-to guides, and update existing docs with the latest changes. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Meet with product managers and software engineers to create documentation plans. 
  • Write documentation about how to perform tasks with the IDE, such as how to use debugger tools and device emulators. 
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills. 
  • Write and test small code samples with SDK tools. 
  • Manage multiple, competing priorities in a constantly changing environment. 


Requirements: 
  • BA Degree in Tech Writing, computer science and/or technology disciplines is preferred and/or equivalent work experience in Technical Writer 
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Technical Writer positions supporting software engineers and developers 
  • A history of writing simple and direct documentation for developers (working with APIs, SDKs, and developer tools). 
  • Ability to read and write some code in languages such as Java or C++. 
  • Experience with a Linux environment and basic command-line tools. 
  • Experience working in HTML is a plus.
