Project Overview:
Our client’s Free-Space Optical Communication team is seeking a test engineer to be part of a multi-disciplinary R&D team. The successful candidate will be responsible for building test stations, generating software and testing complex circuit card assemblies, optical subassemblies, lasers and optical receivers. The position seeks highly-motivated individuals that enjoy working in a small dynamic team environment, with a passion for solving challenging problems that can lead to high-impact advances in technology.

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:
  • Develop custom in-house test platforms for hardware and software verification for both engineering teams and contract manufacturers.
  • Develop software to automate integration, testing and logging for electronics, elecro-optics, mechatronics and optical assemblies.
  • Generate test procedures, test plans, test reports and processes for tracking the composition and test logs associated with each assembly.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Test and qualify hardware per environmental, structural and EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) to Telcordia standards
  • Support engineering hardware and software debugging.

Required Skills:

  • BS Electrical, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 3 + years relevant industry experience of hardware and software integration and test.
  • Experience in embedded C/C++ and scripting languages eg. Python.
  • Proficient in using lab test equipment including oscilloscopes, BERT (bit error rate tester), spectrum analyzer, network analyzer and network test equipment.

Nice to Have Skills/Not Required:

  • Experience with network test equipment, TCP/IP, 10GigE, high speed circuit testing and handling fiber-optics.
  • Optics experience including handling sensitive lenses, splicing fibers and operating in clean rooms.
  • Electro-optical test experience including optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, evaluation of high sensitivity detectors and laser safety.
