Team Overview 
Local Guides is the our client Maps community program for people who share their knowledge and make it easier for others to Client local places. Their contributions, like photos and reviews, help capture the latest information about the real world so our client can better assist users wherever they are with relevant and up to date information. 

Our team cultivates this community of users, by showcasing the utility of their contributions and building bridges that allow Local Guides to better connect with each other. We need a smart, driven, problem solving engineers to help us continue to grow our program. As a UX Engineer for Local Guides, you'll help to build an improved user experience with projects that leverage cloud platforms and APIS, building web apps and internal tools, setting a foundation to help make our client Maps better for users around the world. 

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities: 
  1. Architect, develop, and maintain innovative, engaging, and informative web experiences for a worldwide audience 
  2. Push technology, challenge established thinking, and Client new ways of approaching (and solving) a problem 
  3. Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team 
Additional Responsibilities: 
  • Build tools to grow the Local Guides program and make the team more efficient, improving upon existing processes through problem solving ingenuity 
  • Deliver highly scalable and reliable applications using latest web technologies. 

Requirements: 
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or 5+ years practical experience as a UX Engineer. 
  • Expertise in JavaScript (AngularJS), Python, CSS & HTML 
  • Experience with mobile development, including responsive design. 
  • Experience with our client App Engine and our client Analytics 

Nice to Haves: 
  • Knowledgeable in Python web frameworks, Jinja2 & Django as well as TypeScript and/or Closure 
  • Knowledge of usability and accessibility issues. 
  • Keen eye for clean UI implementation and knowledge of website design best practices 
  • Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills 
  • Experience with at-scale testing and code reviews
