We have a client looking for a Linux Systems Architect for their Corporate Infrastructure team.
 
The primary role of the Linux Systems Architect is to work closely with the Director on architectural and implementation strategies for the company's Linux platforms to ensure maximum performance (current and future), reliability and security for its enterprise applications and sites. This person will be responsible for leading mission-critical enterprise applications. Performance, system uptime, security, capacity planning and scalability are primary objectives to deliver highly available applications and sites for the business. Other responsibilities include maintenance of all hardware, middleware and software used to service the client staff, customers, and support teams, along with the systems used for the development and deployment of Linux based Enterprise applications. This position is a Linux Subject Matter Expert and provides technical expertise for all business and IT projects and provides leadership to other technical staff for related Linux technologies.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Architects the support and maintenance of large-scale production networks and systems, including the design and development of tools and scripts to assist with such maintenance
  • Strong background in SLDC with responsibilities to stage and deploy software releases to production environments
  • Designs and develops high-performance groups of servers for resource-intensive applications
  • Designs and implements system security policy, to include host and client access, file permissions, user accounts, patching and system hardening
  • Reviews current systems and makes technical/process recommendations for improving efficiency
  • Expert on the concepts behind Storage Area Networks
  • Expert on the benefits and limitations of a Service Oriented Architecture, along with microservices
  • Supports mission critical, 24x7x365, highly-available, high volume environments
  • Works well in a collaborative environment, as well as independently
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Stays up to date with relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment and/or systems
 
Qualifications, Training and Experience:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or comparable experience
  • 5+ years of system architecture experience in a large heterogeneous Linux/Windows environment is required
  • Expert experience and understanding of Linux based operating systems – Red Hat or one of its derivatives preferred
  • Experience with Storage Area Network technologies
  • Significant experience with an understanding of LDAP, TCP/IP, DHCP, SNMP, etc
  • Strong Apache and/or nginx experience
  • Experience with service oriented architecture, PHP, Ruby, etc
  • Works well in a collaborative environment, as well as independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
