This is a six month contract position for an IT Operations Database Lead in Albany, NY

Job Description

The IT Operations Database Lead is a dynamic and fast paced position responsible for leading the operational team as it supports all routine and adhoc activities related to the database systems across the enterprise. The IT Ops Database Lead is responsible for the running and managing of the database environment that support business application and decision support systems. Integration and collaboration with application design teams, analytics teams and Operations essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage, coordinate and implement routine database deployment and administration tasks (monitoring, management, troubleshooting, patching, etc)
  • Lead a team of operational DBAs both on and off-shore
  • Work closely with Database Architecture to define and implement processes/procedures related to database systems
  • Collaborate with Application Development and Analytics teams to establish deployment guidelines, expectations, best practices and SLAs.
  • Fully vet all requests related to database systems to ensure best practices are being followed and system stability is the first priority
  • Perform and document disaster recovery tests, working with Database Architecture to define DR processes
  • Install and configure database systems according to best practices and standards
  • Operational Database tuning and performance monitoring.
  • Interface with Microsoft, Oracle and other vendor companies for technical support.
  • Manage database server backups and restores in an enterprise backup solution
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for troubleshooting and problem escalation
  • Effectively work with other operational teams (ServiceDesk, Access Management, Engineering, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Seven (7) years' experience in Information Technology and Database administration
  • A strong understanding of database programming, performance tuning, troubleshooting and best practices
  • A solid understanding of database failover and disaster recovery technologies (Dataguard, Availability groups, FCIs etc)
  • Experience working with database vendors and their associated technical support systems
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Effective communication of complex technical issues across the organization
  • ITIL and Project management experience
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and strong familiarity with SSL, TDE and other encryption technologies

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated technical and leadership abilities, managing small DBA and Middleware teams
  • Trizetto Facets hands on experience preferred
  • HMO or health related industry experience preferred
