Tailwind Associates, an EOE, has a direct full-time opportunity with our client in White Plains, NY for a Senior Systems Administrator
The Senior System Administrator is responsible for supporting existing production applications, with a focus on supporting our client's enterprise asset management system – Maximo - and its multiple interfaces with SAP, as well as applications within the Asset Health Center portfolio – OSI Soft PI, Client Sentinel/ Smart Signal, Client Cycle Watch, etc..
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for supporting production operation, bug fixes, modifications, enhancements, and upgrades. These responsibilities extend to applications design, development, and implementation of systems, and day-to-day operations of systems. The Senior Administrator will have the technical skills needed to implement, support, maintain, and improve the applications that support the client's business operations. In this position you will work with employees client-wide to determine requirements and data relationships, and implement applications. You will also provide solutions to support day-to-day operations for short and long term strategic goals. The Senior Administrator will work with and supervise vendors hired to perform major system projects related to application upgrades and enhancements. Additional tasks include providing supervision and guidance related to overall objectives, critical issues, and policy matters. The work includes responding during off hours or 24X7 on-call as needed to support emergencies, systems outage and critical infrastructure upgrades. It also includes travel to the various client sites.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Support multiple applications including Maximo, its interfaces with SAP, OSI Soft PI, Client SmartSignal, Client Cycle Watch. Support to include production operation, bug fixes, modifications, enhancements and upgrades.
  • Perform installation, configuration, change management, and testing activities as required.
  • Install and configure systems specific to their software infrastructure - various software infrastructures including application servers, web servers, etc.
  • Work with database administrators, portfolio teams, and developers in coordinating system-wide updates and installing upgrades and patches.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and management on applications performance and enhancements.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other team leads, management, and project manager to ensure appropriate integration of processes and modules across the enterprise.
  • Independently troubleshoot and research challenging problems. Resolve issues. Appropriately refer hardware issues.
  • Manage resolution of application production issues adhering to IT change management and issue tracking processes. Verify and ensure applications are functioning properly after any change.
  • Ensure the performance and reliability of business systems; various software infrastructures including application servers, web servers, etc.
  • Monitor and maintain performance metrics for system features, recommend and take corrective/ preventative actions.
  • Manage all aspects of project lifecycle. Determine appropriate software systems, development schedules, user training, and systems testing. Determine budgetary requirements for individual projects.
  • Responsible for solving technical and complex problems on multiple projects, and providing consultative support to internal staff.
  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of test and production objects.
  • Assist in analysis, design, coding, and development activities that include implementation of new solutions and custom developments.
  • Assure overall project quality and ensure timely completion of deliverables and adherence of projects to budgetary constraints.
  • Consult with appropriate IT staff and users on technology changes that will impact work processes.
  • May assist other system administrators effectively utilize the system's technical software
  • May have responsibility for the evaluation of new and existing system products.
  • Coaches lower-level System Administrators
  • Workload will include systems of all sizes and scopes.
  • Must have ability to work flexible hours and respond during off hours, or 24X7 on-call as needed, to support emergencies, systems outage, and critical infrastructure upgrades.
  • Must be willing to travel to all other client sites to support applications and application projects; this travel may be as frequent as twice a month or more.
  • Assist in determining budgetary requirements for individual projects.
  • Provide accurate and timely project status reporting.Required Skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to provide high level of solution architecture based on the comprehensive analysis.
  • Ability to undertake a leadership role in the coordination and integration of multiple projects comprising a large and complex program of business change.
  • Excellent written and oral communication essential to writing failure analysis, incident reports, reporting to senior management, and to ascertain present and future customer needs. Will be called upon to give both internal and external presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Will be called upon to give both internal and external presentations that are logical, smooth, and influential. Written reports can include research papers, analytical studies, and solution review.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be persuasive and have strong negotiating skills.
  • Knowledge of systems and software debugging. Experience using standard application development design, report, and project management tools.
  • Proven ability to install and configure systems specific to their software infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability troubleshooting software and system problems that involve software infrastructure modules and appropriately refers hardware issues.
  • Must be able to complete large, complex, or multi-phased projects.
  • Effective problem solving and excellent time management skills
  • Proven Ability to investigate what is not intuitive and to develop solutions to non-routine problems.
  • Primary technical level responsible as Level III troubleshooting support and responsible for the continuing education of the troubleshooting skills of lower level staff.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain performance metrics for system features recommend and take corrective/preventative actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and/or conduct implementation of enhancements or changes that may involve custom design, optional software, and third party products to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the systems.
  • Experience with configuration, change management, and testing activities.
  • Experience as an active team member in system-wide/cross-functional teams on successful technology projects.
  • Competent to work at the highest technical level on all phases of application implementations and support.
  • Must be aware of changes and advancements in the industry, and develop industry-wide expertise. For example, may work with vendors to solve common design problems, or with customers to better address their needs.
  • Technical knowledge of all phases of software implementation and support
  • Displays working knowledge of a formal system development lifecycle methodology and project lifecycle from business request, project initiation, functional requirements definition, technical design, solution selection, development or purchase, and implementation.
  • Ability to assist in the identification of project requirements including objectives, scope of work, deliverables, time and cost.
  • Ability to deploy solutions to the operational production environment.
    Required Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Six years of experience supporting applications like Maximo, OSI Soft PI, or other applications.
  • Experience with Maximo Mobile, DataSplice, Client Smart Signal, Client Cycle Watch, a plus.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including SharePoint
  • Proficient with Windows Server 2003\2008\2012 and strong technical (hands on) understanding of operating systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of Active directory / DNS; User and User Rights management / File System Rights (NTFS Permissions); security configuration and implementation; group policy management; and backup systems/ data backup management.
  • Experience with relational databases and experience in Microsoft SQL Server and SQL scripting.
  • A strong track record of professional success. Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities and follow through on tasks.
