Job description:
The Director of Information Services (IS) is responsible for the overall direction of the following:
  • Activities of Information Services professional staff to implement efficient and cost-effective infrastructure and business solutions supporting our Client's objectives;
  • New technology, application and support tools evaluation and procurement, including the analysis of new and emerging technologies applicable to the health care environment and the acquisition of new technologies, applications or information management tools through a disciplined procurement process;
  • Architectural planning including requirements for additional and/or upgraded hardware or software to ensure the long-term viability of the information technology (IT) environment;
Special projects as assigned by the CIO or Vice President of IS including, but not limited to the following:
  • Evaluation of alternative solutions for enterprise wide infrastructure and business capabilities;
  • Analysis and selection, through a standardized procurement process, of IT and Business technologies; and
  • Manage technology contractors, following selection, through the development, implementation and maintenance of partnered solutions;
  • Staff compliance of applicable  and Information Services policies, procedures and practices; and
  • Establishment of professional growth opportunities for Information Services employees.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years of progressive experience in a complex technology or information management environment.
  • Minimum of five years experience managing complex technology or information management related projects.
  • Conversant with future direction of information management methods or technologies.
  • Ability to clearly relate to other management of the Center how current and future information management or technologies can be exploited for the benefits of the Center.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, (both verbally and in writing) with all levels of personnel throughout the Center.
  • Certifications and professional associations as applicable to the position.
  • Must express an understanding of health care issues, information systems, management issues, and current trends; be experienced as a facilitator, diplomat, and negotiator/mediator; express high energy, action oriented, and creative approaches to information systems issues and problems, and have a demonstrated record of bringing together diverse functions and build teams involving all categories of health care employees.
  • Provides executive leadership for the Information Services department and the information needs of the Client including being conversant with the future direction of systems how that direction will systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise. Design and maintain a strong service organization including retaining staff, developing staff, and restructuring where necessary.
  • Develops relationships and explore opportunities that support objectives of the institution.
  • Translates strategies and conceptual design and discussions to tactics and team-based actions.
  • Develops and implements goals, directions and strategies for maintaining high customer service levels and IT solutions as well as providing for future service expansion.
  • Develops and coordinates reporting activities including training, equipment or software cost and usage, cost/usage ratios, usage procedures, and personnel time/project allocation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Develops and reviews cost estimates for personnel requirements and external consulting projects.
  • Plans and directs the hiring, training and development, and/or dismissal of personnel, appraises subordinates and administers.
  • Prepares budgets and related financial documents, including business cases, management reports, staff work reporting, project chartering, workplans, issues logs, status reports.
  • Insures the maintenance of a clean, healthy and efficient working environment for personnel.
  • Maintains a highly competent staff to meet the objectives and strategies of the business community and IS. Provide an ability to recruit and retain talented staff will mentoring existing.
  • Works with other IS Directors and management in developing short and long-range plans. Review these with the Senior VP/CIO or Works with other IS as necessary.
