We are looking for an experienced developer to join a unique team that blends product and platform engineering, responsible for both building critical software products and maintaining the platforms that support them—including a vital authentication platform. This role requires strong software development skills, particularly in API development, databases, and cloud-native architecture using AWS (with expertise in Lambda and multi-regional setups), as well as experience with Kong API Gateway. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where responsibilities are shared across a "divide and conquer” team model.

Responsibilities:
• Provide system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases. Integrate third party products. Ensure that expected application performance levels are achieved.
• Ensure the viability of IT deliverables. Recommend development options, including design, build/buy, and vendor purchase. Conduct testing, including functionality, technical limitations, and security.
• Elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule. Provide follow up production support. Submit change control requests and documents.
• Provide subject matter expertise in software development methodology and development architecture standards. Mentor and train staff with less experience. Resolve elevated issues and recommend enterprise-wide improvements.
• Participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues. Explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients. Perform systems analysis activities.
• Thoroughly understand client business functions and technology needs. Has a broad and deep understanding of Vanguard's technologies, tools, and applications, including those that interface with business area and systems. Is well versed on the latest technologies and tools supporting software development in the industry.
• Interface with cross functional team members and communicate systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
• Thoroughly understand and comply with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures and verify that deliverables meet requirements.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4-5 years of development experience.

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

• < Great to have but not absolutely needed> - Hands-on experience in deploying and supporting Kong as a platform in various configurations—including API Gateway, Client Authentication, Ingress Controller, and Mutual TLS Egress—is highly desirable.

• Demonstrated background in AWS (Lambdas, ECS, multi-region and event driven architectures), TypeScript, Node etc.

• Strong track record in designing and building scalable, high-performance APIs for enterprise-grade applications.
