Job Responsibilities
 
Work with internal team and supporting vendors to establish, implement, and maintain global data center strategy and operations. 
 
Manage and maintain data center security access, layouts, and physical inventory and monitor environment conditions including power consumption and capacity.
 
Work with vendor representatives and internal IT teams to coordinate, escalate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues including power, cooling, cabling, as well as other Infrastructure issues.
 
Work with vendors of managed disaster recovery services to implement, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans.
 
Provide oversight for all data center-related incident, problem, and change cases following established service management policies and processes.
 
Oversees preventative and operational maintenance to maintain a secure and state-of-the-art environment.
 
Develop and measure Data Center metrics to improve processes, efficiency, and productivity.
 
Identifies design and installation problems and proposes solutions for the data center environment to increase operational effectiveness.
 
Develop and maintain data center facility policies and procedures. 
 
Responsible for capacity planning including monthly, quarterly and annual metric reports. 
 
Create and maintain all documentation related to the physical and logical layout of data centers.
 
Provide oversight and guidance to regional IT colleagues for operation of MDF, IDFs, and server rooms including power/UPS.
 
Support facilities and IT projects design requirements for structured cabling, MDF/IDF layouts, UPS sizing and rack elevations.
 
Provide on-call support as necessary.

Understanding of network infrastructure concepts as they relate to structured cabling and data centers
Understanding of UPS, cooling, environmental sensors, power, and other data center-related technologies
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to assist in physical installation of servers, cabling, racks, and in-rack-PDUs. The position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and may require working in cramped spaces or elevated locations. 
Ability to effectively respond to data center emergencies while on duty, as well as 24/7/365 as needed.
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation. 
Ability to negotiate with vendors and service providers. 
Ability to work closely with customers (internal/external). 
Ability to serve as a mentor for existing and new team members.
 
SKILLS

EXPERIENCE
5 years of hands-on experience working in a high availability data center 
Familiarity with installing cable, fiber, power, and rack mounting equipment as the chosen person may be working with the appropriate vendors providing this support. Thorough knowledge of fiber and copper testing, installation and troubleshooting procedures required. 
Detailed experience with power management systems including high and low voltage critical distribution systems, UPS systems and generator systems. 
Familiarization with heat management methods, hot and cold aisle containment and supplemental heat rejection methods. 
Experience with data center-related monitoring tools and alerting.

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
 
This role will be responsible for day-to-day operations of Bio-Rad's data centers and power infrastructure and will make decisions pertaining to implementations, incident, problem, and change management within the purview of Bio-Rad IT's service management policies and procedures.
