CPI has an immediate opening for a Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer for our aerospace and defense client's Florham Park, NJ facility. This assignment is a U.S. Government Contract. Due to the work performed within our client's facility, U.S. Citizenship is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills and experience
  • Experience in mechanical design of assemblies and piece parts
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (preferably Solidworks)
  • Technical background in thermal and structural design and analysis
  • Understand manufacturing technologies, techniques, and materials for mechanical parts
  • Experience with prototyping of mechanical parts and inspection of dimensions and finishes
  • Experience working with vendors, machine shops, and contract manufacturers
  • Knowledge of CNC machines and their programming is a big plus
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in ME design 

  • Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and/or machines
  • Is a subject matter expert (SME) in at least one discipline/field and possesses working knowledge in multiple adjacent disciplines/fields
  • Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate requirements management, standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Frequent contact with various departments across the company including, but not limited to, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance
  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs 

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Must have strong proficiency with solid modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawings
  • Strong knowledge with technical standards, manufacturing/fabrication methods, government/industry standards
  • Prefer strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools
  • Highly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Strong ability to clearly recognize and report information relevant to sound mechanical engineering design
  • Strong understanding of and the ability to apply basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
  • Independently determines approach to solutions
