Senior Level Technical Writer

Location: Taunton, Massachusetts
CPI has an immediate opening for a Sr. Level Technical Writer for our esteemed aerospace and defense client's Taunton, MA facility. This assignment is a U.S. Government Contract. Due to the work performed within our client's facility, U.S. Citizenship is required.

NO SUBCONTRACT REQUIREMENT: No third-party applicants will be considered. If you are a third party contracting company, please do not respond to this position!

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Department of Defense security clearance is not required at time of hire. However, should it become necessary, applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, or in a related area is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits complex operational, instructional, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication
  • Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation
  • Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users
  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals
  • Responsive to technical and customer requirements
  • roduces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards
  • Provides recommendations and ideas to the technical documentation team, project leads, management and the customer on best work practices, workflow, presentation, structure and organization of materials by developing new work processes and methods using existing authoring tools, new authoring tools and third-party plug-ins in order to improve work process efficiency and overall quality of customer deliverables
  • Documents engineering processes and specifications by editing software developer and engineering staff's notes and procedures and apply formatting in order to support the writing and publication of hardware and software test procedures, white papers, readme files, etc.
  • Proactively informs management team and project leads to report project status, issues or concerns, including issues of scope, schedule
  • Ensures the accurate preparation of documents for interim and final delivery to customer by creating and preparing materials (agendas, etc.) in order to facilitate various validations and verifications of manuals with the customer
  • Mentors junior writers, providing feedback and critiquing work to assist with developing leadership skills, documentation skills and expertise with production tools, projects, etc.

  • Strong working knowledge of DoD MIL Standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation
  • Strong ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Strong English language skills including accurate definitions and spelling of relevant technical words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the target audience

  • Strong knowledge of xml authoring tools (such as, ArborText Editor) and publication systems
