PhysuThe Physician assistant (PA) provides clinical medical support to the Center of Cancer and Blood Diseases on both the outpatient and inpatient services.  The PA participates in medical examinations, special therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, assessments and in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients.  Responsibilities include obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, communicating treatment plans, obtaining and evaluating required laboratory tests and assisting in the comprehensive care of assigned patients.  These duties will be performed under the medical supervision of the Center pediatric hematologist / oncologist.
The Pa must be credentialed through the Medical Staff Office where appropriate files are maintained to delineate the delegated scope of practice.


Demonstrates a high level of medical skills in performance of physical examination, history taking and the diagnostic/approach to patient care. 

Evaluates acutely ill and routine outpatients and communicates finding with attending physicians.  Initiates appropriate diagnostic work-up and implements and coordinates medical management. 

Performs special procedures in the inpatient and outpatient setting such as lumbar punctures and bone marrow aspirates and biopsies.  Coordinates their implementation.  Communicates with patients and parents regarding the procedures.

Participates in the clinical research activities and the medical management of assigned program patients.  Assists in communication with families regarding treatment planning.
Communicates and coordinates with appropriate multidisciplinary staff as required.  Facilitates collection of research samples and research data.

Regularly communicates and coordinates work activities such as urgent care and procedure coverage with other Center Client and physicians to provide optimal medical coverage for outpatient and inpatient duties.  Demonstrates teamwork. 

Graduation form an accredited Physician Assistant Program.  Preferred 2 year experience in direct pt. medical care. Current Licensure as a physician assistant in California.  CPR certification
