 AMBULATORY CARE REPRESENTATIVE at CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL in LOS ANGELES (CHLA)
 Pay : 14/hr   12 week assignment  Hours: M-F 9 AM - 5:30 PM

Under moderate supervision, performs clerical tasks associated with scheduling and verifying patient appointments, registration and check-out procedures. Performs cashiering duties, coordinates ancillary services.

AMBULATORY CARE REP 1 for Pain and Palliative Care Position
 
Purpose & Summary: Candidate must be Bilingual in English and Spanish; One - two year experience in a medical office setting. Ability to work independently The Ambulatory Clinic Rep I is under moderate supervision, performs clerical tasks associated with scheduling and verifying patient appointments, registration and check-out procedures, maintaining the patient filing systems and monthly data.
Performs cashiering duties, coordinates ancillary services, consultations, and referral orders for patients.
Answers and screens incoming calls, takes and relays messages to clinicians.
Answers telephone calls with respect and courtesy.
Screens calls for problems that may be related to patient information and refers to clinicians when necessary.
Assists callers with specific calls and ensures they receive a response in a prompt manner.
Provides general information regarding the department.
Rolls accounts over in STAR at the beginning of clinic.
Greets patients, parents and visitors. Responds to their questions and concerns regarding their visit.
Uses PowerChart system to check patient into their appropriate visit and encounter.
Verifies patient appointments with daily schedule.
Arranges, orders and schedules ancillary services, interpretation services.
Collects and receives payments where applicable.
Maintains charge and cash receipt records.
Balances cash at beginning and end of shift.
Obtains documentation necessary for billing of accounts when applicable (copies of Medi-Cal cards, insurance ID cards, prepaid health plan authorizations, assignment of benefits).
Performs depart procedures at check out. This includes providing patient with a follow up visit when appropriate, providing the depart summary and informing patient of any physician orders.
Manage Itrack list, sends new patient referrals for triage and schedules new patient appointments.
 
Obtains documentation necessary for billing of accounts when applicable (copies of Medi-Cal cards, insurance ID cards, prepaid health plan authorizations, assignment of benefits).
Completes and submits physician billing.
Enters hospital charges into STAR.
Greets patients, parents and visitors.
Responds to their questions and concerns regarding their visit. Uses KIDS system to check all patients in at arrival. Assists patients/parents in completing necessary forms.
Reviews and clarifies patient information questionnaire with parents or guardians.
Performs quality checks to ensure patient's needs are being met. Operates California point of service (POS) device and verifies eligibility.
Informs staff of visitors' arrival. Accesses financial and demographic data from TDS for billing purposes. Updates the TDS/Oracle system with new or corrected patient information.
Creates and maintains clinic and physician files and records.
Maintains data pertaining to patients and clinic. Orders and prepares patient charges and documents.
Locates missing charts.
Performs other related clerical duties including photocopying, picking up and distributing mail, ordering supplies, etc., as assigned.
Schedules and coordinates patient appointments.
Verifies patient appointments daily.
Uploads patient list to Clientell and verifies contact information.
Coordinates appointments to ensure maximal effectiveness.
Enters physician orders in to KIDS system for any required x-rays or ancillary labs.
Prior to or on the day of the patient visits. Arranges, orders and schedules ancillary services, consultations, and referrals (including referrals to other departments in the hospital) requested to do so by a physician.
 
Minimum Education/Training Required High school or equivalent, or other related training in the healthcare field.
 
 
Behavior Characteristics:
 
Candidate must be bilingual in English and Spanish; desire someone who's familiar with CHLA system.
Excellent phone manner and ability to deal effectively with the public; Good typing skills, basic filing and organizational skills.
