Radiation Therapist

Radiation Therapist will be used per diem. 2-3 years RT exp. Peds a plus, but not required. Must have experience with Truebeam and Vision RT. Familiarity with ARIA is a plus. Possibility of OT and holidays

Manager estimates it would be around two to three days a week, eight hours a day from 6:30am to 3:30pm. This may vary on how busy they are.


Position Purpose & Summary:
The radiation therapist (RT) performs radiotherapeutic and related procedures prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist to assure optimal delivery of pediatric patient care. General responsibilities include proper operation of a simulator, linear accelerator, and related radiotherapeutic equipment; performance of quality control and quality assurance procedures; fabrication/.construction and use of custom blocks, bolus, compensators, head and body immobilizing devices, contours, and templates; precise recording of patient treatment, verification radiograph, and laboratory results; coordination of the patient treatment schedule; maintenance of the simulation, treatment and block cutting rooms in a pristine, safe, and patient-friendly condition; organization and maintenance of appropriate levels of treatment-related supplies; and notification of the physicist and physician of any equipment problems or irregularities. The RT is responsible for maintaining clinical/technical proficiency essential to the successful performance of the specialized duties assigned to the position. The RT shall perform the daily routine with adherence to the quality service standards to create an ideal environment for patient care, teaching and research. The RT will assist in the conduct of clinical research. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
Skills: License, Registration or Certification Required:
1. Current Calif. (CRT) certification in radiation therapy technology.
2. Current National (ARRT) registry.
3. Current fluoroscopy license.
4. Current CPR certification.

Minimum Experience Required:
2 to 3 years experience in radiation therapy with experience in pediatric radiation therapy

Skills Required:
1. Technical knowledge of the function, operation, and quality assurance procedures of simulators and linear accelerators (6MV with electrons, independent jaws) and multi-leaf collimator.
2. Technical knowledge of the function, operation, and quality assurance procedures of block-cutting equipment.
3. Technical knowledge of the purpose and techniques of fabricating custom blocks, bolus, compensators, immobilizing devices; construction of contours and templates.
4. Knowledge of and ability to apply NRC, JCAHO, and OSHA regulations.
5. Knowledge of proper patient care documentation procedures.
6. Knowledge of CPT billing and fee authorization procedures.
7. Ability to make rapid and accurate decisions in an interactive, multidisciplinary setting.
8. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify potential solutions and implement appropriate resolutions.
9. Strong interpersonal skills requiring diplomacy, patience and positive interaction with physicians, staff, patients, parents, and community.
10. Self-motivation with minimal supervision. Skill in prioritizing workload to meet emergency and scheduled needs.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics in order to avoid injury to patients and self.
Education: Completion of an educational program in radiation therapy technology accredited by the Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology.
