Job Description
About the Role
Network Infrastructure Engineering team is looking for a senior technical member to build and maintain its global infrastructure with a focus in lab testing and automation efforts.  This person will work with internal and external customers to gather requirements, provide guidance and network design support. This position requires a highly technical person that has a deep understanding of routing protocols, good operational experience and the ability to isolate, analyze and resolve issues. Your responsibilities vary significantly from the generic network engineering role.  A senior network engineer assigned to the lab is responsible for working closely with the architecture team to build the next generation network topologies in a lab environment and test for various use cases.  A lot of those topologies do not make it to the production network. For the go-forward network designs, the network lab engineer will work directly with industry leading vendors to build features into their products and then run tests to validate their implementation accuracy.  In summary, the lab engineer partners with the Network Architecture team to do extensive network research; therefore, this engineer will need to be well versed in network protocol analysis and network ASIC architecture.  Comparing this to a regular network implementation engineer, this engineer is responsible for using the designs and templates from the lab to be deployed into production.

  • Provide consulting and guidance for all new applications and/or projects that affect network resources and provide consulting on existing application deployments
  • Design, Document, and Support end-to-end networking solutions to support global deployment of services including Global backbone—WAN, Metro, Data Center—LAN
  • Provide training and implementation guidance on newly introduced technologies, designs, and equipment.
  • Evaluate new platforms for networking including development of test plans for current and next generation platforms, working closely with test engineers through test cycles, and partner with industry vendors on next generation platforms that will meet Oath's needs in the future platform selection
  • Continued support for all client technology, design, and platforms
  • Contributed automation code for network configuration and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with vendors to implement various solutions to difficult and unique problems
  • Work closely with Network Architecture team to mimic next generation network topologies in a lab environment and test for various use cases
  • Create and maintain test plans for all network lab hardware test cycles
  • Create comprehensive documentation for all deployment processes post lab testing
  • Mentor junior engineers on the lab testing process and work to develop their automation skills as it relates to reducing lab cycle times for code train testing
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with large scale global network environments.
  • Expert level experience with Juniper and Cisco required
  • Strong knowledge in TCP/IP, L2/L3 protocols, LAN, Spanning-tree, WAN, Metro, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS, QoS/CoS
  • Experience with network testing equipment, e.g., IXIA and Spirent
  • Excellent problem resolution skills
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills along with multitasking capabilities to get things done in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience writing automation code in Python and Perl
