Senior Electrical Designer

Job Description: This role will support the assist the Design and Drafting Department in development of complex designs for construction based upon technical specifications and criteria provided by discipline engineers as well as industry codes, standards and regulations.                  
Education Requirement:
  • Associate Degree in an Engineering discipline or Applied Science.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a designer may be substituted for an Associate's degree at the discretion of the New York Power Authority.
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of applicable industry related experience in generation and/or transmission designs.
  • Design experience with a utility or A-E firm is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • Excellent technical expertise in the Electrical design discipline and a high level of knowledge in overall engineering principles, construction techniques and generally accepted design & drafting practices.
• Very good understanding of related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to view tasks logically and generate a design solution applying accepted standards. 
• Able to handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Ability to recognize issues that arise during the design process and solve technical problems.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to adjust to changing project requirements, priorities and assignments.
Hours: Monday through Friday
7.5 hour work day with .5 hour unpaid lunch
Paid for time worked only; there are no paid holidays, vacation or sick days
Other Information:
  • Independently prepares final schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, cable & conduit schedules, equipment layouts, bill of materials, etc. specific to the Electrical discipline.
  • Collaborates with other designers and CAD Operators to develop complete multi-discipline design packages.
  • Reviews final drawings prepared by other designers to ensure accuracy and completeness of design.  Provides solutions to technical and field issues as needed.
  • Verifies field conditions through site inspections and interpretation of existing design
