Job Description: Medical Staffing Services Inc., is looking for Oncology Nurse to work in New Brunswick, NJ.

  • Works collaboratively with all members of the health care team to ensure oncology patients receive efficient, safe and high quality nursing care.
  • Performs thorough assessment on assigned patients; identifies actual and potential problems specific to cancer population.
  • ollaborates with physicians, Tumor Study Group Coordinators, Research Nurses, Social Workers and other health team members to determine appropriate clinical management strategies.
  • Plans for the provision of traditional and individualized comfort measures.
  • Meets patient care needs, provides assistance to other team members and responds to changing needs of the environment.
  • Competently performs and documents technical skills as required in the ambulatory setting.
  • Ensures documentation and sign off of orders.
  • Notifies physician and patient of study results.
  • Completes precertification form for admission and treatment as appropriate.
  • Ensures continuity by providing interface to treatment nurses, APN's, physicians, and appropriate hospital staff. Monitors/evaluates toxicities secondary to chemotherapy.
  • Anticipates problems that might arise in frequently occurring clinical situations.
  • Administers chemotherapy, biological, investigational agents, blood/blood products and supportive care therapies to adult clients older than 18 years of age.
  • Performs effectively in life-threatening situations by identifying emergent problems and initiating appropriate interventions based on Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Re-establishes priorities according to the demands of the clinical setting.
  • Provides patient education to individuals and family members.
  • Identifies patient readiness to learn, formulates and implements individualized teaching plans and documents outcome.
  • Provides patient and family counseling and reassurance in regard to psychological and/or psychosocial issues.
  • Supports the research mission by collaborating with Research Nurse in protocol implementation.
  • Assists in the coordination of patient care services from the ambulatory to in-patient setting by communicating with hospital nursing staff as needed.
  • Provides complete documentation on all aspects of patient experience according to documentation policy.
Education Requirement: Chemotherapy Certification
American Heart Association: Basic Life Support
OCN – Oncology Certified Nurse
Bachelor of Nursing Degree preferred.
