SPI Administrator

The SPI Administrator will be expected to provide leadership to the project teams in terms of working within a data centric smart tool environment with a strong attitude for data quality and practices as well as working closely with the project team to enforce work group standards, policies and procedures or help define these where they don't exist or have gaps in their implementation. The SPI Administrator will be expected to have a good working knowledge of performing imports for SPI as well as managing most aspects of administration of a SPI project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes but is not necessarily limited to the following.
  • Be proficient and have project and site-based experience in Controls and Electrical Design and Engineering across multiple industries including (but not limited to) Oil, Gas & Chemical; Power & Power Generation; Specialty Chemicals; Food; Metals & Mining also an advantage.
  • Have a focused and strong attitude towards data quality for the project on a day to day basis
  • Advise as a tool specialist on project workflows and data structure standards to the project
  • Where required, build out and expedite project data at a rate that is consistent with the data provided at the time of execution.
  • Audit project data on a regular basis to agreed standards to catch technical and structural data issues on a project early avoiding lost efficiency and project progress
  • Be able to schedule and execute short hand training sessions (Lunch and Learn, for e.g.) to help engineering's continuous learning with the tool
  • Stay well-informed and up-to-date on changing workflows, development items and requirements within the Integrated Environment and pass that learning to project teams.
  • Perform project imports (bulk data loads) when and where this is efficient to do so
  • Initialize and maintain SPI projects
  • Maintain and update Datasheet Powersoft Reports (PSRs) where fluid change of datasheet requirements are required.
  • React quickly and effectively to any issues with the software reported by the project team and work with in house systems to track and record progress in addressing bugs or identifying training issues.
  • Interface directly with Hexagon/Intergraph with software issues and problems by means of Service Requests (SRs) with a strong technical understanding of the software
  • Perform regular database maintenance and create local backups of all relevant projects
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Expected to provide leadership to the project teams in terms of best practices, data quality and workflows in working with SPI and communicating any workflow conflicts and/or development requirements for discussion back into the EDT team. If asked to do so will be able to help the Controls department with interviewing and training employees and provide feedback regarding technical performance with SPI, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must be able to listen and communicate effectively with project personnel while maintaining a structured approach of working within a larger integrated engineering solution.

  • Expert knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) with at least five (5) years of Lead Design or Engineering experience with SPI as the chosen tool for data delivery.
  • High Level of knowledge and understanding with AutoCAD, MicroStation and Intergraph's SmartSketch.
  • High level of knowledge and understanding with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • A good working knowledge and understanding with Sybase's InfoMaker would be a distinct advantage.
  • A good understanding or demonstration of skillset with Microsoft Access and Structured Query Language (SQL) would be considered an advantage.
