Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer must be fully proficient at providing direction of electrical design drawings and documentation during all phases of equipment fabrication. Central responsibility is the design, check out, and implementation of a properly designed and fully functional electrical system for facilities that meets the customer's requirements. These facilities include natural gas compressor packages, gas processing and treating plants, refinery units, and compressed natural gas fueling stations.

The person must have electrical design experience working on and around these types of facilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Fully proficient at creating electrical design drawings for gas processing and compression facilities in compliance with company's standards using 3-D, CAD or manual systems
  • Supports the I&E Department by studying engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documents
  • Generate design drawings for major electrical equipment items including motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, power supply systems, distribution panels, control panels, control stations, electrical heat tracing, and area lighting. The person must be familiar with the major equipment used by the company in the manufacturing of its facilities. This includes motor driven compressors and pumps, turbo expanders, air coolers, and fired process heaters
  • Preparation of Bills of Materials and specifications, creating documentation required and processing Engineering Change Orders, and ensuring adherence to designated quality and cost parameters
  • Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems, recommending viable solutions, modifying drawings as required, to company policies and procedures
  • Requires use of computers, drafting and hand tools, calibration and measurement instruments, proficient using 3-D CAD design, proficient using Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), proficient with e-mail system, Microsoft Outlook preferred, and strong creative ability to design and develop electrical equipment installation drawings. These drawings include one line diagrams, motor schematics, power, instrument and control cable schedules, grounding plan/grid, junction box wiring diagrams, control panel layout and wiring diagrams, cable tray plans and details, lighting plans, substation equipment, power house and MCC building plans, installation details, and electric heat tracing. Responsibilities may also include the checking and approval of these drawings.
  • Work with manufacturing and field personnel in performing shop and on-site field check outs and commissioning of installed electrical systems
  • Confer with manufacturing and drafting to prepare design modifications as required
Required Skills or Tools
Should be familiar with the following design/installation guidelines and codes:
NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC)
National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)
American Petroleum Institute (API) Standar

Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting or related field.
  • 6-10 yrs related experience and/or training
  • Some experience working with Oracle would be a plus
