Job Description:
  • City of Anaheim is seeking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our team of qualified and diverse IT professionals.
  • Primary responsibilities include Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012 Server Operating Systems and administration is also required.
  • Active Directory administration, Group Policy, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and application specific servers in a Hyper-V and VMware virtualized environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide systems administration support for the server infrastructure attached to the City of Anaheim network located at the APD
  • Respond appropriately to recommendations made by the Security Administrator in the form of timely updates and vulnerability remediation's to prevent vulnerabilities associated with Microsoft Windows Servers on a routine basis
  • Follow IS City guidelines pertaining to change control, change management and process improvement
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and assist in resolving routine server incidents
  • Monitor daily archive and backup compliance; document, rotate, resolve issues and modify schedule according to management requirements
  • Work directly with vendors to install and configure software and server solutions
  • Maintain an inventory of server systems under support and in-use at the APD facility. Work with IS department core server admin team to develop roadmap for warranty expirations, system upgrades and replacements and ensuring the healthy state of the environment
  • Cross-train a resource to fulfill the role of a back up to the primary support resource.
  • Perform workstation image deployment, configuration management, refresh setup and support
  • Provide test environment support for special solutions – perform server operating system level tasks to ensure that configurations are within City standard

  • Provide all duties and services as defined for the System Administrator role and in addition:
  • Perform project based support work following the City IS Department project management documentation outlining requirements, milestones, start and end dates and overall reporting on a monthly basis to the City IS Manager for status
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and assist in resolving complex server, workstation and network related issues
  • Provide periodic reports to IS Server Team leader for the server administration team status updates of projects, support issues and for guidance for operational support
  • Provide oversight for daily archive and backup compliance
  • Generate and provide management or technical reports
  • Work with the Security Administrator and the team to evaluate the security standing of the various computer systems and mitigate any vulnerability discovered as a result of that evaluation.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the CoA host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
  • Manage projects for hardware/software deployments and changes involving the server environment
  • Implement, maintain and troubleshoot servers running Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Provide support for the storage environment for file servers and database storage including SAN and NAS
  • Recommend and implement technologies, policies and strategies to optimize and enhance clients' infrastructure solutions
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on server products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Respond to requests for technical information from management, conduct technical assessment and deliver solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Perform problem determination, problem resolution, and root cause analysis, generate incident reports and fix issues related to performance and availability
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention
  • Respond to incidents to avoid or minimize system outages and restore availability to meet service level objectives
  • APD is a 24/7/365 operation and as such this position may be required to work mandatory overtime and/or extended shifts for emergencies and operations.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experienced and skilled in support of backup systems
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in support of servers with Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Experience supporting VMware infrastructure in an enterprise environment
  • Knowledge of Antivirus and Anti-spam solutions
  • Work closely with other infrastructure and application teams, including database administrators, network and security teams, and assist in overall implementation and troubleshooting
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends and/or during change windows outside of normal business hours
  • Must be willing to perform tasks in other areas and augment the infrastructure staff when needed
  • Ability to provide creative solutions, demonstrated innovation and communication of new deliverables and offerings
  • The Candidate must work on-site at the client's location in Anaheim, CA
  • Required to have excellent verbal and written skills, business acumen and the ability to communicate at all levels of internal and external clients and senior management

  • Anaheim Police Department clearance will be required. No other clearance is required.
