Job Title: Category & Customer Insights Analyst

Education/Experience Required: 4 Year Bachelor's degree (concentration in Marketing, Business, or Communications preferred); 3+ years of experience in category management

The Category & Customer Insights Analyst will be a key player in shaping the newly formed category management department and developing best practices. This person will be the go-to-person for developing insightful and actionable analysis and selling story presentations based on business trends and category management expertise. This role will challenge the individual to provide key conclusions, implications and recommended action plans, as well as, require strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deliver information to internal teams and outside customers. To be successful in this role, one must demonstrate the ability to cut through data to identify what information is most important to the business so the conclusions are effectively and persuasively communicated.
  • Primarily responsible for the development and implementation of fact based sales presentations
  • Understand industry, consumer and category trends and translating those insights into actionable strategic business recommendations to achieve both our client and customer goals and objectives
  • Provide proactive analysis and shopper insight driven recommendations against all key business drivers related to category business reviews, assortment & space optimization, promotion & pricing effectiveness
  • Leverage all analytical tools from a variety of syndicated data sources such as IRI, Nielsen, customer POS, and loyalty card data to discern trends, identify customer opportunities and provide insights-based recommendations
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with key strategic customers so that our client is viewed as the category leader in providing recommendations for the categories in which we compete
  • Develop planogram strategies aligning with customer goals and shopper insights. Create planograms using JDA software and provide strategic and tactical merchandising recommendations.

Critical Experiences/Background Requirements:
  • 4 Year Bachelor's degree (concentration in Marketing, Business, or Communications preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in category management
  • Excellent analytical & technical skills - experience with Nielsen/syndicated data, Consumer Panel data, JDA ProSpace, as well as Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to utilize data to create compelling selling stories that support key brands/initiatives
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects, set priorities and plan
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams as participant and/or leader
  • Self-Starter with the ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervisor
