Job Description & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare accurate and timely Unclaimed Property reports in accordance with state regulations.
  • Assume key role in Unclaimed Property Audits.
  • Research Unclaimed Property for compliance.
  • Stale check research and resolution.
  • Responsible for monthly account reconciliations, journal entries and cash deposits.
  • Responsible for the preparation and filing of annual Unclaimed Property reports to all US jurisdictions. Will require communication and coordination with Legal, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Transaction Accounting (Brokerage) and other functional groups.
  • Responsible for researching various unclaimed property jurisdictions for reporting requirements, and maintaining awareness of revisions to state Unclaimed Property dormancy periods.
  • Responsible for researching and resolving stale dated checks, and for performing all due diligence prior to escheating to the State(s).
  • Responsible for monthly account reconciliations, journal entries, and preparing cash deposits.
  • Responsible for taking a lead role in Unclaimed Property Audits.
  • Responsible for monitoring State Unclaimed Property databases to identify and recover property due to the Company.
  • May assist with Business Licenses, Apportionment, other special projects as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized four-year college or university is required
  • Minimum 2-4 years accounting, finance, or business-related experience desired
  • Position requires advanced computer skills, to include Microsoft Office/Excel
  • Position requires knowledge of financial accounting terms and principles
  • Position requires strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Requires ability to work independently; self-starter
  • Requires strong organizational and project management skills
  • Requires strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with others in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Individual should have the ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret various types of business documents; the ability to write reports and memos clearly; the ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written, with State Unclaimed Property Administrators, field personnel, co-workers, supervisors, and / or management of all levels; and the ability to present information to an internal department and /or large groups of employees.
  • Position requires knowledge of financial accounting terms and principles.
  • Knowledge of State Escheatment Laws preferred, but is not required.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a Basic Accounting Test (Standard Paper). Test is a combo of multiple choice and fill in the blank. Test will be approx. 45 minutes. Looking for a score of 80% or better.
  • Strong PC and Excel skills are required for this position.
  • Lots of Pivot Table and V-lookup work using MS Excel.
  • Position will also require lots of research: unclaimed properties, compliance laws, and property codes.
  • This is very fast-paced & high volume work; candidates must be comfortable in this type of environment.
