Seeking an Controls Systems Engineer for ITS Advanced Prototypes in Detroit, MI
Create ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) advanced prototypes that demonstrate new application/concepts in the areas of Big Data, Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), Active Safety, Traffic Flow and Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications. These prototypes will be created in an accelerated environment and formally presented to internal evaluators for potential transition to product development.
Develop advanced ITS prototypes utilizing the process of Plan, Build and Assess.
Plan advanced prototype concept through brainstorming and market/technology research.
Build advanced prototype using hands-on expertise in vehicle control and data analytics.
Assess prototype through developing and executing test plan.
Ability to modify vehicle control systems and understand data analytics.
Ability to complete hands-on tasks including vehicle electrical wiring and mechanical installation.
Participate in internal/external brainstorming meetings for new application idea creation.
Ability to collaborate with device vendors, universities or other internal departments.
Must Have
3+ years experience programming control devices using one or more of the following: Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, C/C++, Labview/Labwindow, Targetlink.
Basic statistical data analytical skills including use of common data analysis tools.
Completed college course work in: control theory (closed loop systems, PID controllers), digital signal processing, digital filter design and data analytics.
Proficient with MS Office, MS PowerPoint and MS Word.
Ability to create and present project plans/status to management.
Willing to travel and work some overtime.
Bachelor's degree in one or more of the following: Systems engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering or Computer science.
In-depth experience in Big Data analytics/modeling.
Understanding of swarm dynamics with respect to traffic flow.
Experience with Vehicle-to-Vehicle communications and Vehicle Control.
Familiar with Adaptive Cruise Control, Electronic Stability Control , Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist System, Lane Departure Warning or other active safety system R&D.
Programming of vehicle control devices (i.e., Dedicated ECU including Adaptive Cruise Control unit, Electronic Stability Control unit, Autobox device (dSpace).
Device interface Programming (read sensor data via serial port, analog signal processing, read and analyze vehicle CAN data)
Ability to interface vehicle devices at hardware level including the design, build and installation of project specific wiring harnesses.
Ability to design and build basic in-car mounting fixtures.
