 Our direct client is seeking a Loan Accounting Specialist for their Columbia, SC location. This is a 4-month contract to potential hire opportunity.
Job Description:
The Loan Accounting Specialist II prides themselves in the ability to use relevant accounting knowledge for distressed loan processing, completing specialized work efficiently and reconciling general ledger accounts for a specialized portfolio.  The Accounting Specialist should exhibit exceptional organizational skills as it relates to loan processing and documentation, and procedure updates.  The Specialist focuses on producing high quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines and procedures. This position is designed to develop a valued technical expert, who is recognized and supported by management in a stable work environment, and one who can deliver high quality work on a consistent basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support distressed loan and participation loan accounting via loan and financial systems. 
  • Perform tasks related to reconciling, balancing, and understanding the requirements of each of these portfolios utilizing various system generated reports, Excel workbooks, Access databases, and other reporting tools along with accounting expertise.
  • Research and resolve issues related to distressed loans, and represent the Association Loan Operations systems as an expert on assigned processes, applications, and portfolios.  
  • Work in a team environment to support our Association partners and other team members in delivering quality service. 
  • Education and/or equivalent experience to a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum three years of professional level accounting work experience
  • Understands and adheres to GAAP
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access/SQL databases
  • Service oriented with the ability to cooperate and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all staff
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and plan work activities to meet deadlines and commitments, and work independently
  • 1 or more years of loan accounting and/or loan processing and distressed loan experience
  • Mainframe based loan accounting applications experience
  • Understanding of banking operations and regulations
