Sr. UNIX System Administrator / Team Lead - Perm

Position Summary:
The Sr. UNIX System Administrator / Team Lead will be responsible for the maintenance, performance, stability, security and support of all UNIX / Linux related systems, servers, and related components. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure UNIX system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry and security best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Ability to be flexible in a hyper-growth working environment where priorities shift quickly. You must be flexible and adapt well to a wide range of tasks and technologies.
  • Leveraging the strengths of individual team members as peers and delegating tasks appropriately within the group for long term projects or support efforts and insuring organizational goals are met.
  • Provides technical coaching and cross-training efforts to direct reports and completes performance reviews to direct reports per company policy.
  • Coordinates the on-call and time off schedules of direct reports.
  • Performs standardization, stabilization, optimization and automation (create/maintain scripts) on multiple technical platforms and OSes [ Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 / Sun Solaris 10 and 11 ]
  • Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to drive improved service delivery while improving UNIX system(s) security, coordinating support efforts to internal application and infrastructure teams to insure applications are deployed properly.
  • Review and deploy UNIX system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all UNIX / Linux systems.
  • Documents all changes, upgrades, maintenance, procedures, etc. using company document infrastructure
  • Documented, architect and perform DR procedure(s) for different components of the Unix infrastructure to minimize downtime and adhere to RTO and RPO .
  • Perform UNIX/ Linux system security audits leading to identification and mitigation of security threats to enterprise data. Recommend and implement changes where necessary.
  • Understand and work from applications requirements. Translate business requirements into technical designs that leverage Enterprise packaged software functionality to address business functional needs. Collaborate with technical leads to facilitate the development of optimal technical solutions for new technologies, provide recommendations as to product selection, implementation, and development in proof of concepts, and technology evaluations.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 environment and work flexible hours as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Solaris Operating System experience supporting mission critical, large enterprise environments
  • 3+ years of Linux (preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux) in a large enterprise environment
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining UNIX servers, networks, and clusters.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix File Systems (QFS, UFS, ZFS).
  • Strong scripting skills
  • Requires extensive experience in supporting and troubleshooting Linux and Solaris Networking services and protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, SSL, HTTP
  • Requires experience in troubleshooting NFS, SAMBA and CIFS
  • Must possess strong analytical/logical skills, as well as good trouble-shooting and problem solving skills
  • Possess strong leadership skills as this position will require interfacing with the other development and network teams, excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and documentation skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or comparable education and experience.

  • Experience with Solaris Containers / Zones
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with Open source personalization (Apache, Tomcat)
  • Experience with automation tools / configuration management (Ansible, Puppet)
  • Experience with Docker / Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of J2EE/Tomcast
  • Knowledge of or past experience with NAS and SAN technologies
  • Knowledge of or past experience with Fiber Switches (preferable Brocade)
  • Experience in high volume, 24 x 7 production environments is a definite plus.
