Our client, the world's leading search engine and technology company, is seeking a Technical Writer III. This is a 12 month + contract position located in Mountain View, CA.

  • The Team: Learning Design Team, Engineering Education
    • engEDU's Learning Design team supports the various programs and products within the Code with portfolio. The mission of Code is to cultivate an interest in CS for learners of all backgrounds and to equip them with the navigational and technical skills they need to pursue a technical career. The Learning Design team acts as a consultant for the Code with portfoliostrategizing around instructional design, advising on pedagogy and curriculum and helping conduct learner analysis - with the overarching goal of helping students and other learners participate in effective and equitable CS education experiences.
  • The Focus Area: Pedagogical Standards and Instructional Design Process Creation
    • The Learning Design team is a new team within engEDU, and as such we want to make sure that we are beginning our work from a robust, well-researched, and inclusive foundation. One of our first priorities is to design a process for instructional design that creates effective CS learning experiences, so that we can encourage our partner teams to leverage that process in their own creation and support them along the process' various steps.
    • As we look towards the future of CS education, there are plenty of challenges to overcome, especially within making learning engaging, equitable, and effective for learners from all backgrounds. The work that we do as a Learning Design team, to that end, should take current best practices into consideration and adhere to standards that we have set and agreed upon to give our programs and projects the best chance to appeal to a broad range of students and help them get to where they want to be. We are aiming to present these standards to the larger organizational leadership and, with their buy-in, start applying these standards and design strategies to our work as soon as possible, fully enacting them by the end of Q2 2023. We plan to spend the remainder of 2023 getting feedback from our partner teams and auditing our process, to finalize our standards and strategy by the end of the year.
  • The Role: Instructional Designer
    • As an Instructional Designer, you will work with our team and our organization to develop a set of standards that we can incorporate into our work with partners. In addition, you will work with the Learning Design team to codify an instructional design process and strategy for our team (and the larger organization). Finally, you will help use the standards you develop to help the team evaluate programs within the larger Code with portfolio and subsequently help teams understand and meet the standards and best practices we've developed. As a result, you are expected to quickly establish and maintain relationships and credibility with partners, identify needs and requirements for the team and organization, develop standards and a process consistent with current educational best practices, and ultimately help us audit how well our process, strategy, and standards work for our partners within the organization.

  • Collaborate with the larger Learning Design team to develop standards for the team's curriculum work as well as an instructional design process and strategy for the team and larger organization.
  • Work with the team to deploy the instructional design process, incorporating feedback from partners and programs.
  • Serve as a strategic instructional development consultant for our partner teams - supporting them as they apply the new instructional design process to their products and programs.
  • Develop and validate assessments for the new instructional design process and strategy, evaluating its effectiveness at producing learning experiences that meets both student needs and organizational goals.

  • 5+ year of experience working in an educational capacity.
  • Equity-oriented understanding of instructional design methodologies, tools and techniques.
  • Experience with curriculum design at scale, including creating learning objectives, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Proven interdepartmental and teamwork skills.
  • High tolerance and enthusiasm for ambiguity, change and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Must also be driven, proactive, detail-oriented.
  • Able to work as a W2 employee of Genesis10 (no Corp-to-Corp).
  • Desired:
    • Experience with Computer Science / STEM curriculum design.
    • Strong Computer Science / technical background.
    • Hands-on experience in a classroom environment and experience working directly with students.
    • Familiarity with the current CS education landscape and best practices.
