Our client, the world's leading search engine and technology company, is seeking a UX Research Associate. This is a 12 month + contract position located in New York, NY.

Description:
  • Our client is seeking a UX Research Associate.
  • We follow a simple but vital premise in the User Experience group: "Focus on the user and all else will follow. " We're passionately interested in our users and strive to learn everything we can about their goals and needs, attitudes and emotions to help define the products and experiences we create. The User Experience team is a critical driving force behind gathering these insights and then using them to inspire and inform design. We are a multi-disciplinary team of interaction designers, visual designers, user researchers, copywriters and web developers who collaborate closely with each other and with Engineering and Product Management to create innovative, and usable, products that people love to use.
  • Project Overview:
    • You will be empowering Machine Learning Developers to create better Client models. We are building tools to help these developers understand equity and fairness related problems in their models. As a UX Researcher you will be improving these tools in true participatory design fashion.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct qualitative user research, primarily in-lab usability sessions.
  • User study moderation.
  • Administer questionnaires and surveys.
  • Assist other user researchers with various user research preparation activities.
  • Literature reviews.
  • Lab setup & management.
  • Liaise with participant recruiting teams and participant onboarding.
  • Note taking and data capture.
  • Highlight-video creation.
  • Qualitative data analysis/synthesis.
  • Basic user testing analyses.
  • Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:
    • Draft findings, recommendations, and reports based on user research.
    • Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written and oral presentations.
    • Work with content at many levels (style guides, templates, analytics). Partner with Product, Program Management, UX, UXR, engineering, support operations, legal, PR, and other editorial groups to ensure content consistency and transparency.

Requirements:
  • B.A./B.S. (completed) or M.A/M.S./M.Des./Ph.D. in Human Factors, HCI, Design, Product Development, Psychology, Anthropology, Linguistics, Computer Science, Social Science, or other field emphasizing human behavior.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with a range of qualitative research methods and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to translate research findings into actionable, persuasive insights for the product team.
  • Experience crafting and communicating research findings through appropriate means.
  • Detail-oriented; ability to work fairly independently on a variety of tasks. Gets things done: Ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • **At least 4 years of industry experience as a researcher. Professional experience only. Academic does not meet this criteria.****
    • Strong preference for PhD in Information Science, Social Science or similar areas.
    • Work Experience required (full time) 4 or more years in industry as a UX Researcher.
    • Experience preferred in understanding and improving complex enterprise UI's.
    • Proficient in qualitative research methods like interviews, diary studies, cognitive walkthroughs etc.
    • Preference for those with basic quantitative skills (eg. T-Test, F-Test etc.).
    • Strong preference for those having industry experience working with Machine Learning/AI topics.
  • Able to work as a W2 employee of Genesis10 (no Corp-to-Corp)
  • Desired:
    • Graduate degree in Human Factors, HCI, Design, Product Development, Psychology, Computer Science, Anthropology, Linguistics, Social Science, or other field emphasizing human behavior.
    • 4+ years of relevant work experience, including integrating user research into product designe.g., in applied industry or in an innovation/design/product development consultancy (e.g., IDEO, Fjord, frog); particularly relevant prior job titles include UX Researcher or Design Researcher, User-centered Design Strategist, User-centered Product Innovator, Design consultant Experience conducting UX research cross-culturally and/or in emerging markets.
