Genesis10 is seeking a Network Design Engineer - Optical Transport for a leading company in Butler, PA. This is a full-time direct hire need.

Job Summary:

The Network Design Engineer - Optical Transport will provide technical support and advanced knowledge as it pertains to design, configuration, prioritization, implementation, and documentation of the Optical Transport Network. This position will be involved with the installation, upgrading and troubleshooting of DWDM, CWDM, TDM, SONET, Layer 1 and Layer 2 network Elements.

Job Duties:
  • Work collaboratively with the Engineering, Innovation & Technology & Technical Operations departments, including other network engineers, operations engineers, sales engineers, customers, vendors, technicians, various levels of management, and others.
  • Serve as the Engineering subject matter expert for optical transport network planning, design and implementation efforts.
  • Perform tasks of very high complexity relating to the design, maintenance, and problem analysis of optical transport equipment.
  • Generate Work Request materials that accurately, thoroughly, and efficiently detail all work to be completed by Technical Operations, System Operations, and others. 
  • Assist and guide Network Technicians and Operations Engineers in the installation, configuration, turn up, and modification of network equipment.
  • Participate in network planning and network deployment strategies.
  • Create and implement Methods of Procedure and project work plans. 
  • Create detailed documentation of client's network systems and topologies – new and existing.
  • Provide assistance to the Operations team for troubleshooting and repair of network systems and equipment.
  • Support client's Network Management Systems and help with additions/modifications as needed.
  • Provide direction and guidance for policy and procedure creation related to client's engineering Best Practices and network design.
  • 2 - 5+ years as a Network Engineer in a service provider environment or large enterprise environment with a focus on Optical Transport design, engineering and installation. 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited college or university is preferred.  Experience in network operations is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of CWDM/DWDM optical transport network solutions, system design, architecture, service delivery and operation.  Concepts include ROADM, OSNR, dispersion compensation, optical amplification and level adjustment, FEC, etc.
  • Strong understanding of transport device hardware and software (Cisco, Ekinops, Ciena, etc.).
  • Knowledge of network and system management software (Cisco Prime/CTC/CTP, Blue Planet, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience with various networking standards and protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP Ethernet, VLAN tagging, spanning tree protocols, DNS, DHCP, NAT, CGN, SIP, MGCP, RTP, and others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and apply strong design knowledge and understanding of IP networks to complete network designs and augments.
  • Knowledge and experience with GPON and passive optical network topologies and related provisioning methodologies is a plus.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to work independently under minimal supervision; must be a self-starter that can work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must have strong communications skills, both verbal and written, to communicate design criteria and project plans to others inside and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment.  This includes the willingness and desire to share information, work collaboratively, and help others – both inside and outside of the Engineering group.
  • Must be available to support the business when necessary which includes overnight travel and/or non-standard shift assignments (maintenance windows).
  • Cisco certification (or equivalent vendor certification) is preferred
