Genesis10 is actively seeking a Director of Technologies/Application Development resource for a direct hire/permanent position opening with our transportation industry client located in Overland Park, KS. 
The Director is responsible for the Linehaul application portfolio including:

  • Simulation/Optimization of linehaul movements in a 400+ terminal network
  • Planning and execution of linehaul dispatches
  • Equipment management functions including tracking, service, compliance for tractors, trailers, dollies, forklifts, etc.
  • Supporting rail and partner carrier functions

In addition, the Director provides technology leadership for transformation program to consolidate operations of three regional carriers (operating units) to a standard set of technology and processes. The program is in its early stage and is expected to span several years.

The Director leads a direct team of 25-30 IT professionals. Through managers and individual contributors, the Director is responsible for day-to-day support of the systems and, working with business partners, definition and implementation of longer-term application strategy. The Director also provides direction to additional team of 50+ FTEs working in the transformation program.

The Director reports to the Vice President of Applications, Data and Architecture.

Responsibilities :

Application portfolio management (35%)

  • Work with business partners and staff to define and implement application strategy in area of responsibility.
  • Provide 7X24 production support for application systems in area of responsibility.
  • Oversee technology projects to develop new or enhance existing business capabilities.
  • Ensure clear communication on approach, status, issues and risks on a regular basis to manage stakeholder expectations

Transformation program leadership (50%)

  • Set program strategy and execution objectives in alignment with business goals
  • Lead core team of analyst and program/project managers in execution of program goals
  • Cross-coordinate with other members of the IT and business leadership teams to assure alignment and remove impediments for team member
  • Communicate program status and needs to senior IT and business leadership via regular status and planning meetings
  • Work with core team to monitor and manage multiple work streams to ensure that overall program deliverable is on track and risks are appropriately mitigated

Team Development and Financial Management (15%)

  • Attract, retain and develop IT staff. Develop high performing teams. Mentor/coach direct reports.
  • Participate in annual financial budgeting/planning processes and ongoing financial management of resources in area of responsibility.
  • Ensure resources are managed to budget and timely communication of budget exceptions and development of plans to close gaps.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and create cost-efficient and comprehensive contracts that protect the company

  • Resolving Conflict - Helping others deal effectively with an antagonistic situation to minimize damage to the relationships and promote shared goals; using appropriate interpersonal methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more people and facilitate agreement.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, preferably in Information Technology or Operations Engineering.
  • Ten (10) or more years of proven progressive performance in IT.
  • Five (5) or more years management experience; prior experience managing teams of 30 or more people.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with all levels of management.

  • Freight and Logistics industry experience
  • Agile development experience
  • Advanced degree
