Genesis10 is currently seeking a HOSPITAL CLINICAL INFORMATICIST with our client in the Hospital industry in their Bronx, NY location. This is a full-time permanent position

  • Under direction, this medical professional is responsible for the ongoing support, process analysis, design, implementation, and upgrades of clinical information systems in coordination with Hospital's clinical staff
  • Responsible for preparing clinical reports and analyses that support the acute care units, creating prototype processes, algorithms, and systems that drive business decisions; creates clinical requirements and technical specifications for the prototypes they create
  • Works effectively through all phases of system development and implementation from a clinical perspective to ensure the design of the clinical system meets clinical requirements as well as best practice and evidence-based medicine
  • Functions as a liaison between professional clinical and other information systems staff, coordinating system implementation and maintenance, and resolution of functional and technical issues
  • Performs complex troubleshooting of the Hospital Computer Information Systems (HCIS); develops and modifies policies and procedures impacted by clinical information systems
  • Performs above in accordance with the Patient Safety and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) Acts, The Joint Commission (JCAHO) and other regulatory agencies

  • Consults with and assists physicians, executives, and other clinical professionals by conducting analysis and developing reports utilizing multiple data sources. Integrates clinical, financial, cost, demographic, billing and other data from various sources when conducting analysis and preparing reports
  • Support projects that include, but are not limited to, quality improvement, cost containment, protocol- specific performance monitoring, clinical outcomes analysis, physician resource utilization, and market analysis. Designs and implements new analytic models and methodologies for assessing patient outcomes, studying cost and utilization trends, and other decision support activities. Utilizes departmental data including, medical, pharmacy, laboratory, clinical assessments as well as operational data
  • Performs or leads special studies, computer simulations, statistical testing and projects to solve unique clinical/technical problems / questions identified by management and users.
  • Provides end user support regarding data sources (such as medical informatics databases), as well as guidance in the appropriate use of query building, institutionally supported business intelligence, and reporting applications.
  • Assists database management staff in the design, testing, and maintenance of departmental systems.
  • Understands and translates clinical requirements in an operational healthcare setting into formal specifications for products and services; includes leveraging capabilities of a clinical information system to re-engineer clinical workflow
  • Uses strong understanding of nursing and clinical workflow processes to identify the impact of a systems functionality on those processes
  • Performs current state analysis, future state and system design, communicating with key members of the health care team, problem determination and resolution, testing of identified solutions and policy and procedure development
  • Participate in data quality programs that address work processes affecting the quality of data entered and stored by various institutional systems
  • Manages the implementation, training, evaluation, and maintenance of clinical and hospital-based systems within Calvary Hospital
  • Monitors application use and supports and activates disaster recovery strategies in times of need. Participates in clinical application development decisions and secures user input in design development
  • Captures, defines, and prioritizes pre and post implementation issues. Reports and participates in the problem solving of issues
  • Coordinates the collection and reporting of metrics defining benefits realization and return on investment associated with clinical information systems. Ensures protocol compliance relative to data collection and scientific method

  • A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of:
  • Clinical protocols, hardware, documentation and systems applications.
  • Principles, practices, and current trends in hospital and clinical organization and administration.
  • Nursing practices and principles; medical terminology.
  • Evidence based medicine and medical treatments.
  • Federal and state clinical regulatory guidelines, as related to information systems in a clinical/hospital setting.
  • Healthcare operations, the clinical research process, patient care, statistics, and hospital financial data.
  • Trends in clinical management and information systems. Working knowledge of:
  • Personal computer applications such as, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, statistical, and graphical tools.
  • Principles and practices of project management.
  • Analytical, financial, and database management.
  • Team dynamics and team building. Skill and Ability 
  • Work with applications analysts to identify and mitigate impacts of application changes, upgrades and implementations on clinical staff, procedures and processes.
  • Work with clinical and management staff to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy.
  • Write and speak clearly and report out empirical data in an accurate and organized manner.
  • Communicate effectively with medical and technical staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Develop and evaluate technology alternatives for resolving client business problems.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of data and information processed.
  • Utilize project management tools.
  • Apply data processing technology for the clinical and physician services areas.
  • Effectively utilize a variety of computer programs such as MSWord, Power Point, Excel, and Access.
  • Act independently, take, initiative, and complete projects under pressure, with tight deadlines, and minimal supervision.
  • Effectively analyze, identify, interpret and diagnose clinical systems-related problems and take corrective measures or make recommendations that lead to problem resolution.
  • Assemble technical documentation and project plans.
  • Gather, analyze and present data.
  • Evaluate information and reach viable conclusions.
  • Act in a leadership role, using professional demeanor, with nursing/medical staff.
  • Build and maintain excellent communication and interpersonal relations with all levels of staff and vendors.
  • As a condition of employment, the incumbent will be required to:
  • May be required to work overtime, irregular hours, variable shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • May come in contact with infectious organisms and other potentially hazardous substances.
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing or health related field and advanced knowledge of quality clinical improvement tools and principles; and
  • Three to five years of experience in the medical health field as a nurse, radiologist, pharmacist, therapist, laboratory manager or lab technician; and
  • Five years' experience with data collection, analysis and presentation; and
  • Three years combined clinical and information system experience in a large hospital setting.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
  • Nursing Informatics Certification.
  • Registered Nurse license.
  • The physical and sensory abilities required for this classification include:
  • Sight sufficient to read computer screens and standard computer printouts
  • Strength to lift a 30-pound object, without assistance, and items weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance
  • Manual and finger dexterity sufficient to work with hands in close tolerances and to work with small electronic components
  • Speech adequate to project voice clearly and adequately to speak in public
  • Mobility and agility sufficient to bend, stoop and crawl, in order to access computers and servers
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for 4 hours, such as while conducting training sessions
  • Ability to remain seated at computer station for extended periods
  • Hearing adequate to distinguish and identify sounds and voices in a typical office environment.
  • Ability to work around infectious organisms and other potentially hazardous substances
