Data and Reporting Analyst II

The primary purpose of the job is to:
  • Assist in reporting, analyzing, and tracking trends in medical utilization, access, cost, quality, outcomes and membership.
  • Responsible for assuring the accuracy and validity of data, while interpreting results into recommendations.
  • Generate standard and ad hoc reports to support management of utilization, quality improvement, provider contracting, marketing initiatives, financial savings and cost reductions, and statutory requirements.
  • Analysis and use of systems such as Data Warehouse and SSRS.

Job functions include:
  • Collaborate with customers at all levels of the organization to define objectives and what questions require answers. Identify the sources and methodologies for obtaining the necessary data. Research metadata and data element definitions for best and most appropriate data extraction sources, methodologies and categories.
  • Extract and summarize data from a variety of systems such as data warehouse and other computer databases used for measurement and decision support and ability to train and share that knowledge with other staff.
  • Create spreadsheets and queries to track utilization performance in various specified categories.
  • Format results into visually effective tools such as graphs, charts, etc.
  • Research, test and validate results for accuracy.
  • Analyze data and reporting aberrations and provide explanations for variances and changes
  • Creates and updates specific utilization and cost reports as requested
  • Responsible for documenting process and procedures to ensure uniformity of report generation across all data analysts

  • Creates and executes training of new data analysts
  • Identify emerging utilization, demographic, cost and other trends and potentially important issues.
  • Represent department on selected committees and workgroups

Other Skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analysis;
  • Highly proficient computer skills including, applications such as Access, Excel and familiarity with other reporting and query applications (SQL, BI Query, Crystal etc.).
  • Working knowledge of elementary statistical concepts.
  • Strong PC skills (including Excel, Access, SQL, other reporting database management systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to various levels of management.
