Summary
The Operation Network Architect ensures that the Operations Network facilitates secure and reliable communications for client operations and process, while minimizing any business disruption. Design, implement and support the communications and operation networking infrastructure throughout the Authority.
 
Responsibilities
  • While working closely with the Operations Network Project Management Team, direct and coordinate all aspects of Operations Network infrastructure and architecture and establish priorities for systems design, implementation, and maintenance to maximize organizational performance. Provide oversight and approve the initiation, completion and changes in scope to infrastructure projects.
  • Design, develop and implement substantive guidance, procedures, and standards for service management, infrastructure development, test and deployment efforts with primary focus on technical services being provided by the OpsNet.
  • In conjunction with OpsNet Network Engineer, manage and maintain testing lab to configure, evaluate, test, and troubleshoot equipment, firmware/software upgrades, security, encryption, and network design changes prior to deployment.  Develop maintenance best practices and provide technical support to site technicians.
  • Ensure that the required Service Level Agreement, quality and budget parameters are in line with the values defined by management for each production customer.
  • In conjunction with the OpsNet Core Team, approve and/or recommend for approval equipment, hardware, software, systems, services and other related items as applicable to install or maintain technical services.
  • Maintain current and accurate documentation of the Operations Network via standard client drawings and communications circuit database.
  • Work closely with the Asset Management group to maintain the OpsNet assets in Maximo.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the existing communications circuits and architecture and applications being serviced.
  • Specific knowledge of the communications industry with particular attention to trends and technology improvements,  vendors, applications, concepts and methods, available hardware and systems and their regulation, techniques and management practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to achieve results through others, including significant experience with large scale projects and matrix management environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral/presentation and written communications skills in both technical and non-technical language. Ability to effectively communicate with varying levels of management and staff in both the Business Unit and in IT
  • Conceptual and analytical thinker, ability to understand and synthesize complex business and technology issues and strategies.
  • Proven ability in managing and working with outside service providers, including the ability to work in an environment driven by service level metrics. 
  • Ability to understand and operate within the terms of a service contract.
 
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Associate’s Degree in electrical technology
  • Minimum 7 years communications experience with demonstrated technical skills in maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of network equipment and protocols and telecommunication technology.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with telecommunication equipment and systems inclusive of multiplexers, channel banks, Voice over IP, TCP/IP, mobile radio, microwave and satellite systems.
  • Extensive experience in testing and maintenance of operational applications utilizing analog telecommunications including video, telemetry, protective relaying, SCADA, and voice.
Experience with:
  • Distributed and networks environments.
  • Networks, operating systems and supporting software, network hardware such as routers, switches and network protocols.
  • Copper and fiber cabling technologies and testing
