Job Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Reports to the Supervisor of Telecommunications. Responsible for fully supporting, configuring, maintaining and upgrading OT network hardware. Ensures the stability and integrity of voice, data, video and wireless network services. Responsible for the planning, design and implementation of LAN and WAN across the company. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide technical oversight of a multi-site enterprise level networks, including planning, implementation/expansion, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Prepare and maintain documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts. Design, deploy, and administer wireless networks and supporting systems. Recommend upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment. Train team members on new hardware or software as needed. Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated, approaches for network administration tasks. Analyze and monitor server security and make recommendations or implement patches/fixes to address potential security holes. Provide hardware and operating system support for the corporate and field computer systems environment, UNIX, Linux, Windows, and storage. Collaborate with department heads to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Design and deploy County LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry. Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Design, implement, and maintain radio communication networks. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Participate in managing all network security solutions. Perform server and security audits, and system backups and recovery. Provide on-call and weekend support when needed.
¿ KNOWLEDGE ¿ SKILLS ¿ ABILITIES ¿ BEHAVIORS Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related technical discipline along with job-related certifications. Minimum 5 years network administration or network engineering experience. Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation. Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required. Must be confident working with production network equipment. Must possess basic knowledge of programming languages and operating systems. Ability to organize, plan, prioritize assignments, train and direct technical/professional staff. Performs multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively. Demonstrated ability to work with customers, outside agencies & vendors. Valid Michigan driver's license with acceptable record required. Preferred: 8 years experience in Network Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. Proven experience in network design and support. Experience with supporting networked SCADA systems and applications related to utility operations. Experience in LAN, WAN and radio telecommunication systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequently required to sit, talk, hear and listen. Good vision required to read and interpret documents and observe staff. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with employees, management, other departments, customers, and outside agencies. Ability to communicate with field personnel on site. Ability to enter and retrieve data from computerized, typed and written sources, along with electric test and metering equipment. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment on jobsites. Some business travel required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment and data centers with periodic field exposure (i.e. electric power plants, T&D systems and substations).
