GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Reports to the Supervisor of Operations Technology. Responsible for providing programming and support for operations technology control and enterprise systems. Implements, updates, and tests all aspects of data collection, presentation, and control of field devices related to the BWL’s transmission and distribution assets in the ADMS and OT Enterprise systems in a manner that ensures the safe and reliable operation of the BWL electric system.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Creates and maintains data points and required links for the collection of data from BWL assets.
  • Creates and maintains accurate displays, charts, reports, graphs and related visualizations within BWL SCADA and Enterprise systems. Performs and tests all changes in development and QA environments to ensure the quality of service. Assist ECS group with connectivity and end to end testing of all field devices.
  • Interact with the vendor to resolve application issues. Interface with operators and engineers regarding system usage and identify, evaluate, and implement improvements consistent with business requirements. Participates in system functionality tests. Initiates processes and performs other functions as necessary. Seeks out ways to improve applications or processes. Mentors staff in best practices, development methods and troubleshooting. Researches and tests new applications software makes recommendations on software acquisitions and undergoes training as needed. Maintains advanced knowledge of programming and information technology in general. Provides written documentation for user reference and distributes to appropriate staff. Ensures developed systems and programs comply with IT/OT security policies and procedures. Understands client requirements and how they translate in application features. Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features where feasible. Writes high-quality code and scripts. Must be able to recognize the needs of customers and create or implement new applications that answer those needs. Must be able to clearly communicate their ideas to teammates and management. Possess good customer service skills to answer questions and fix issues. Provides 24x7x365 on-call rotational support as needed.
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 5 years of experience in the area of assignment. 5 years of experience in programming and systems
  • software support. Possesses effective project management techniques. Firm understanding of electric
  • system field instrumentation. Working knowledge of NERC CIP cyber security practices. Understands coding languages and how to apply them in a way to create new, fresh content and usable applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers, outside agencies & vendors. Proficiency in the following programming languages: Visual Basic.NET, JavaScript, Python, HTML, C#, C+, SQL. Applies proficient knowledge of available APIs, SDKs, and Add-Ins for control and enterprise systems. Knowledge of web-based applications development. Knowledge of IT security principles and practices. Designs, codes, tests, and deploys solutions, requiring programming web-based, desktop, and mobile applications. Valid Michigan driver’s license with the acceptable record.
Preferred:
8 years’ experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Basic
knowledge of overall power system operation. Experience with supporting SCADA systems and
applications to utility operations. Database experience. Basic knowledge of overall power system
operations.
 
Physical Requirements:
Frequently required to sit, talk, hear and listen. Good vision required to read and interpret documents and observe staff. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with employees, management, other departments, customers, and outside agencies. Ability to communicate with field personnel on site. Ability to enter and retrieve data from computerized, typed and written sources, along with electric test and metering equipment. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment on job sites. Some business travel required.
