Job Description:

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: This is not a regular "clearance" just a higher level of background check that includes fingerprinting and credit check.

SAFETY and LOGISTIC TECHNICIAN
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provides administrative and basic technical support for the laboratory, to enhance operating efficiency. Receive supplies and samples through the warehouse to include the documentation of sample details in a tracking system. Conduct review of laboratory equipment and conditions as related to established safe operations protocols. Address nonconformance to avoid mission impacts.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates specimen shipping and receiving activities. Assists with the transport and delivery of specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Works underneath a biological safety cabinet, receives specimens, and verifies specimen acceptability.
  • Assists the laboratory with aliquotting and labeling specimens for testing. Performs laboratory processes using aseptic techniques.
  • Performs laboratory data entry, scans various data forms and case report forms.
  • Maintains logs, binders, and records of activities.
  • Organizes and files paperwork, manuals, and binders.
  • Calibrates minor equipment including but not limited to timers and thermometers.
  • Assists with appointment coordination of repair and upkeep for major laboratory equipment including but not limited to centrifuges and freezers.
  • Assists with laboratory equipment inventory.
  • Must be able to be on call and respond to equipment issues 24/7.
  • Assists the laboratory with archiving specimen and retrieving specimens for additional testing.
  • Reviews existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to include safety and equipment management.
  • Assists with the coordination of all aspects of the safety and health program of laboratory staff.
  • Gives safety presentations.
  • Monitors day to day facilities issues.
  • As needed, updates muster sheets and safety boards.
  • Assists with laboratory purchase processes including contacting vendors for quotes and invoices and creating purchase orders, as needed.
  • Assists with the receipt and distribution of incoming laboratory supplies that are purchased.
  • Assists with laboratory equipment validation.
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
2-year degree or certification in related technical field (or equivalent) and 0-2 years of experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
  • Proficient skills in use of word processing, spreadsheets, email, digital and analog phones.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects.
  • Ability to lift boxes approximately 10-25 pounds and push a cart.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Ability to interface with investigators, research staff, and study participants.
