Position Summary:
  • The purpose of this position is to assist in the research and development of materials for contact lens formulations.
  • The position will be focused on lens formulation preparations, fabricate lenses, conduct cure studies and analytical testing, and data analysis.
  • These activities are important to the development of new materials for contact lenses
  • The position will also focus on quality design control documentation, external partner contract management, and managing project budget.
  • Adheres to environmental policy, procedures, and supports department environmental objectives.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
  1. Preparation of reactive monomer mixes/formulations: 25%
  2. Lens fabrication/glove box or cure studies: 25%
  3. Analytical testing (e.g. HPLC, UV-Vis, Photo-DSC): 25%
  4. Design Controls: 15%
  5. Contract Management and Budget: 10%

Equipment usage and abilities needed:
  1. HPLC and UV/VIS
  2. Technical writer and/or Quality background preferred

Qualifications:
  • Minimum education required: Undergraduate bachelor degree in Science (Chemistry, Engineering, or Biology) or 3+ years working in Science (academia or industry).
  • Minimum experience: 3 years working in Science (academia or industry)
  • No Travel
  • Give no supervision to others.
  • Under general or minimum supervision, performs duties in terms of stated objectives. Generally works out details within broad guidelines and exercises considerable initiative and judgment.
