UNIX Systems Administrator II

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: With direct supervision, this position assists with daily operations support and maintenance for UNIX operating systems and servers, assists with installation and configuration of UNIX servers and provides support for UNIX systems-related problems. POSITION COMPETENCIES: * Familiar with standard concepts, best practices and procedures related to system administration. * Acquainted with application systems/business functions. * Communicates effectively with other technical staff. * Establishes cooperative relationships with members of the technical team. * Establishes cooperative relationships with end-users. * Manages time effectively while assuring attention to details. * Finishes tasks accurately, completely and on time. RESULTS EXPECTED: * Assists with the installation, upgrade and configuration of infrastructure servers. * Assists in applying fixes and work-arounds. Identifies known/suspected faults, limitations and/or problems in system hardware and software and works to resolve. * Assists in the development and maintenance of infrastructure applications and system configuration documentation. * Provides technical support and guidance. * Resolves issues using good judgment, attention to detail and in a timely manner. Escalates problems when necessary and learns from their successful resolution for future issues. * Assists in backup and recovery processes. * Follows policies and procedures to ensure corporate data security.

MandatoryTypically has one of the following: *Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related field. OR *2 years UNIX systems administration experience.
Ideal CandidateThis is an level II Unix admin role; degree and/or experience in basic unix/linux administration and IT system management concepts are needed. Do not submit over qualified candidates. Must be capable and eager to understand and execute routine system admin duties with opportunity for supporting other related and advanced concepts such as enterprise storage and system optimization.
