Contract research scientist position in the Structural Biology and Protein Sciences Group at La Jolla.
  • The primary responsibilities are: maintenance of insect cell stocks, maintenance and amplification of baculovirus stocks, small-scale plate-based protein expression screening in insect cells and Escherichia coli, large-scale expression of proteins in insect cells using flasks and Wave Bioreactors, and data entry of all experimental records into various database systems.
 
Additional Skills:             
  • Required qualifications are a B.S./M.S. degree in a Life Sciences discipline with 2 or more years full-time laboratory experience in scale-up recombinant protein production in insect cell culture systems and/or mammalian cell culture systems.
  • The candidate would preferably have experience in modern parallel approaches to producing recombinant proteins in support of Drug Discovery efforts. Such experience might include operational familiarity with all or a number of the following technologies: generation of recombinant baculoviruses using the Client-to-Client system, generation and storage of baculovirus high-titer virus stocks, familiarity with plate-based methodologies for small-scale protein expression and purification screening, scale-up of protein production in both baculovirus-infected insect cells and mammalian cells, experience with Wave Bioreactor cell culture platforms, and purification of recombinant proteins using tag systems. The candidate should possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, be motivated, able to multi-task, to work independently, and to maintain detailed laboratory database records.
  • A track record of successful teamwork and interpersonal relationships is desired.
