Firmware Technician

Title: Firmware Technician
Duration: 12 Months with possible extension
Location: Eden Prairie, MN
 
Firmware Technician: The Firmware Technician is responsible for the effective verification of the hearing aid firmware. Moreover, the Firmware technician will assist in a variety of activities throughout the Firmware department that will accelerate the pace of development.  
 
Essential Functions
  1. Understand the test cases and execute test cases on firmware releases.
    1. Understand the test cases and how they apply to the firmware system requirements
    2. Verify the functionality of the firmware using software tools, python scripts, hearing aids, development boards, measurement tools, etc.
  2. Clearly document the results and communicate with developers.
    1. Log results based on the established processes.
    2. Document defects with detail, accuracy, and conciseness while ensuring defect reproduction
    3. Clearly communicate issues with FW developers and work with them to root-cause and resolve issues.
  3. Assist in a variety of activities throughout the Firmware department.
    1. Assist team members with configuration of devices and recreation of defects.
    2. Assist in lab setup and maintenance of lab equipment.
    3. Assist in creation of certain documents including but not limited to test procedures, how to documents, etc. 
  4. Understand firmware systems requirements and/or requirements for a particular firmware module.
    1. Understand the firmware module at a high level and it's interface through participation in meetings, studying associated documents and reference materials, etc.

  • Support Starkey Employee Corporate and/or Department Guidelines.
  • Check and verify quality.
  • Support corporate health and safety objectives.
  • React to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned.
 
Job Requirements

Minimum education, certification and experience requirements:
Education:
  • Technical degree in Software or Electronics
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant industry experience
Experience:
  • Experience using engineering software tools
  • Experience working with embedded systems is desirable
  • Experience in wireless communication is desirable.
  • Experience in using Test or Requirements Management tool (Polarion or equivalent) is desirable
  • Experience using Defect tracking tools (Jira or equivalent) is desirable
  • Experience in using electronic hardware (Oscilloscope; Spectrum analyzer; Signal generator; Multimeter; Loudspeaker and amplifier)
  • Experience in audio and/or wireless is highly desirable.
  • Experience in creation of test procedure is desirable.
Skills & Abilities
  • Skill in computer programming is desirable.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Products.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting.
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate and organized.
  • Great oral and written communication skills are a must.
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated and collaborative.
