  • More senior level role
  • This role requires a high-level understanding of CSS architecture. Candidates should have experience managing complex CSS libraries at scale.
  • The social and cultural fit is important. The candidate should be comfortable with code reviews and scrutiny of their work
  • Portfolio is important but for this role, but the HM is looking for patterns, tools exposed to, and the complexity of their web pages.
  • The HM doesn't want to see Dropbox links or google drive links for portfolios because of company firewalls
  • Interview Process: First round: Informal lunch interview - (45 minutes)
  • Second round (2.5 to 3 hours long) with cross functional team members and hiring manager and may include 1) portfolio review, 2) Panel interview, 3) White Board Challenge 4) Final Challenge
 
Details: Our client, a national financial leader, is looking for a Design Technologist to work with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and product managers to improve and maintain the company's websites and secure client applications. In this role, you will also collaborate with core UI team members to develop repeatable design patterns, establish development standards, and help maintain the company's component library.

MUST HAVE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Expertise and understanding of graphic design fundamentals (typography, color theory, layout, etc.)
  • Strong front end developer skills
  • Strong UI experience
  • High level understanding of CSS architecture
  • HTML/CSS expertise
  • Working knowledge of JS (behavioral prototyping)
  • Understanding of Git
  • Ability to clearly communicate design ideas to designers, non-designers and business stakeholders
  • Expertise with Sketch, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
 
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Strong organizational skills with extreme attention to design details and functional nuance
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to lead other designers
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Self-reliant with the ability to be curious, engaged and approachable
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, and product managers to improve and maintain the company's public websites and secure client applications.
  • Collaborate with core UI team members to develop repeatable design patterns, establish development standards, and help maintain the company component library.
  • Understand business objectives, as well as customer needs, in order to articulate how design can address them.
  • Work closely with cross-functional feature teams to deliver features in support of business objectives.
  • Extend and improve the company's UI design language, development standards and component libraries.
  • Collaborate with front-end engineers to implement UI components within platform constraints.
  • Actively participate in design critiques, code reviews and team retrospectives.
  • Help improve team culture.
  • Stay current with a rapidly changing industry and share knowledge with others.
