This posting is for Interim or Temp-to-Perm opportunity for Laboratory Supervisor on 2:30p-11p shift.
Supervises the operation of the off-shift lab. Plans, organizes, schedules, and directs the activities of technical and non-technical personnel to provide optimal, cost-effective delivery of services according to departmental standards of quality, productivity, and performance.
Serves as a resource to identify, investigate, resolve, and monitor concerns when they are identified.
Acts as a liaison with all levels of staff.
Collaborates with managers to assure uninterrupted workflow.
Understands the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families and visitors ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatrics and provides care accordingly.
Compliance – understands and complies with the Code of Conduct and department policies, procedures and regulation.
 
Working Environment:
 
Clinical chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Coag, Urinalysis with an automated line for Chemistry.
LIS is McKesson HLAB. Beckman Automated line, Beckman AU's, Siemen, Centaurs, Beckman DxH's, Diagnostica Stago for Coag, and IRIS instruments for Urinalysis.
Level 1 Trauma Center, approx.450 bed hospital, we service Cancer patients, NICU, open heart surgery, Dialysis patients – afternoons are filled with work from Physician offices, BIG drops are seen in the lab around 12noon and again at 6pm, 2nd and 3rd shift have 16 techs.
The position is for a working on-the-bench supervisor for about 50% of the time.
 
Ability to get along with other techs, problem solve, multitask, perform conflict resolution if needed, interact with nurses and physicians at night.
 
"Day in the Life”:
 
The ability to come in and take over any issues that the day shift Core Lab Technical Specialist are trying to solve and/or work – on, troubleshooting instruments, etc.
Perform competencies on 2nd/3rd shift techs, perform monthly "rounding” with all techs, Help day shift perform linearities, correlations, train 2nd and 3rd shift techs on any new instruments or procedures, hold monthly meetings, help with Scheduling, fill in for sickness or time off.
Lab is in one location at main Hospital.
 
Looking for 5 years as a tech, and prior supervisory experience in fast-paced environment with strong knowledge of laboratory operations and broad experience with laboratory computer systems.
Prefer BS in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, etc. and be MT or MLS (ASCP)
