Python Engineer

Python Engineer

Role:
  • As a Virtusa Engineer, you will be responsible for developing robust software that solves business problems.  You will be responsible for thinking, collaborating ideas for solutions with both peer and senior leadership, and executing on the approved design.  A successful candidate will have a sense of pride in ownership in their work and strive to produce the highest quality deliverables and takes responsibility to ensure the project is successful.
  • In this role, you will be responsible for both writing new code, servicing/troubleshooting existing code, and assisting senior technical leadership with designs and solutions.  Creating Standard Work, documentation, QA test plans, and other supporting activities will be required.   
 
The Skills required to be successful:
  • Practitioner experience developing robust Python applications, both in calculation/back end processing and as a full web-stack application
  • Vast understanding of Pip, Flask, NumPy, Anaconda, PyCharm, or similar tool stack and ability to coach junior developers on their usage
  • Efficient in database queries and data storage best practices
  • Ability to implement designs in a Service Orientated Architecture (SOA) and/or micro-services pattern
  • Experience using Git, or similar source repo, issue tracking, and committing code
  • Ability to follow standards and project processes as defined by project managers, architects, and the customer
  • Communication with customers and stakeholders of all levels, both oral and written, is a critical success factor.  Strong presentation skills and an ability to demonstrate concepts to an audience of multiple levels.
 
Preferred candidates will also have some of the following:
  • Knowledgeable in a second tech stack, such as Java, C#/.Net, Sharepoint
  • Experience with enterprise hosting including Websphere, IIS, and working with Hadoop and Spark 
  • Experience with cloud technologies and elastic solutions
  • Front-end web technology skills, such as html/css/javascript and modern frameworks like ReactJS and/or Angular
  • Understanding of finance and accounting concepts
  • Domain exposure to manufacturing and/or aerospace
  • Exposure to machine learning, AI, or blockchain
  • High aptitude for complex mathematics and calculus
 
Qualifications you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS/CS or similar discipline with formal software engineering coursework, or in lieu of a formal degree 4 years professional software development experience and at least 1 professional certification (eg, MCSE, PMP, TOGAF)
  • 1-3+ years’ experience developing web-based applications at the enterprise level
  • Demonstrated track record of individual growth, academically and/or professionally
  • Strong desire to learn new things and venture into uncharted territory
